Not trolling but I can understand that truths about high Asian achievement makes people uncomfortable. Especially those who get in with less qualifications than Asians. |

| It’s not usually the kid’s decision, it’s the annoying busybody parents living through their kids — as evident by many posts in this thread. Many of these parents set up common app for the child and do all the applications themselves, of course. |
Triggered striver. |
Your poor child has no life. 20-30 applications is ridiculous. I pray you're a troll. |
I'm white and I was a legacy at ODU. Please tell me what "influence" would have worked in my favor for getting into a competitive college? |
Wait! Is this true???!!!??? |
Ha! White males get a huge leg up over Asians. Colleges generally try to have a diversified student body and Asians have highest GPA and SAT scores. Asians need much higher grades than whites to get into the same colleges. Asian females are generally the most disadvantaged in terms of college acceptance. They have the highest scores of any demographic. It’s baffling that white people completely dismiss all the ways they get an advantage in college admissions. |
DC residents may apply for a Tuition Assistance Grant, DC-TAG, which will cover up to $10,000 for any public university in the country. When the program started, that was generally enough to cover the different between in-state and out of state tuition. Not any more, but it is still a nice perk for DC residents. |
Perhaps or perhaps I'm going to call it as I see it. I am constantly amazed at the level of entitlement that I see by UMC-UC folks - I see it in my own family - but that's for a different post. And had you triggered this "striver" I would have posted that in reading your comment I immediately had thought of your daughters and how you had failed them. And as its obvious you lack the self awareness to see it I did think to point it out but I didn't want to twist the knife. But you failed them - they obviously lack compassion, empathy, and a good heart. They sound as shallow as you. And if I feel for anybody it is the poor bastards that are going to get stuck with your daughters. |
It will. Good luck to you and yours. |
They get in with higher test scores, NOT more qualifications. Test scores are one element in the process. |

My URM DC-resident kids filled out 10-12 applications each
High stats kids are rolling the dice too, if they're aiming for top 50 places, many of which admit fewer than 20% of applicants We have no state flagship to fall back on... :/ |
Whites on URMs.: “It’s not fair they get in with lower test scores! I’m a victim!” Whites on Asians: “Test scores aren’t everything. That’s why my kids with lower test scores should get in!” |
The entitled apples don’t fall far from the tree. |
