It's gone national. Congrats to Churchill. https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/high-school-students-reportedly-caught-trading-n-word-passes-lunch-giving-pass-holders-permission-use-slur-020137240.html |
The media is desperate for stupid stories, especially now that Smollett's hoax became apparent. |
It was a meme that is on the Internet. A needed conversation is how such humor at the expense of others is hurtful to the school community if you want the behavior to change. I think referring the matter to the police stifles the conversation and passes the buck on fixing the problem. Mr. Fields used to do a history lesson on stereotyping using Looney Tune cartoons to bring the point home to students. This was a lesson that spurred a family conversation and was up there as a lesson that really stuck with my child. Jokes are funny until you are the one being targeted. |
The media reports stories of stupid things that people do. |
Yes but a very biased way. For example, while they are reporting this little thing they are ignoring most of yesterday's murders, which disproportionally are committed by black perps and with consequences a tad more serious than a stupid drawing somewhere, especially for the children killed. |
Except that nobody said or wrote the actual N-word. If you look at the WJLA clip from the link given above, it was a Willy Wonka style card taken off the Internet giving the user permission to use the N-word". Nobody said or wrote the word "Ni&&er" and there was nothing negative said about black people or anyone else. The card is like something one might see in a Saturday Night Live skit. " Maybe the N-word is "naked". |
Please do not respond to the bigoted troll on this thread.

Well, Rs like to ignore that 8 children a day die by guns, so I guess Rs are just like the media then. BTW when there was a fight at Churchill years ago and parents raised concerns, the Principal told the parents not worry because it was black on black crime. Looks like some other people in Churchill like to ignore any black crime. |
Or Nut. Or Nazi. Or Nimroy. Seriously, this whole thing is a joke. |
This is sad but newsworthy and making lame excuses fails to address the problem. |
Did this really happen? We're a black family that lived in the neighborhood, but chose to move to a more diverse area closer in before kids were school age. That doesn't sound like a very welcoming environment, to say the least. |
Yes, it happened. I read about it last year on DCUM and googled and found a news story. |

Yes, it really happened 12 years ago. http://www.gazette.net/stories/010507/montcou171330_31991.shtml Fortunately, principal Benz retired last year (at age 78!). Our DS has recently been complaining about being the only black student in his intermediate to advanced classes, and about the difficulty making friends with the many Asian students in his classes. But he says that he has not experienced any overt racism. |
More nitvdad but dumb, and you’re the one making lame excuses. There seems to be a class of people who invent ‘offense’ and slander others ‘offensive’ so they can feel good about themselves by declaring their moral superiority. |
+1 many parents prefer to ignore these problems and just pretend this happens everywhere which by definition is lame |
