But I'm wondering if the kids families have big time connections or if most got in on merit - also, are families paying for super expensive college placement services separate from school? It's also interesting to me that most to of their students go to Washington University - great school but seems like an unusual choice given the distance- and Tulane - what's the appeal?

GDS students have a strong social justice orientation. For various historical and cultural reasons, UVA may have less appeal to GDS seniors.

not trying to make y'all feel bad but if you look at Wilson & Whitman/BCC it puts this list to shame. Just saying. I hope that the $$ you put in has other value then where you kid goes to school.

When people post things like this it makes me realize that discussing this with you is pointless because if you think going to private is all about where you end up at college then you really have no idea what going to private school is all about - particularly an elite DC school.

Plus Wilson is 5 times larger than GDS and even larger than Maret.

Each leading independent school is a quality school, but as a (admittedly biased) parent, I feel that GDS is quite special. The GDS faculty and students cause me to think of that Green Mountain Coffee commercial about the mountains: "Each amazing on their own, but together… magical."

Oh for gods sake! Really? This is why GDS grads are insufferable pompous twits.

Not if you acknowledge the fact that this list includes all the graduates of GDS vs all the graduates of W/W/BCC. The lists are comparable if you compare the destinations of the top 20% of the public high school seniors to the top 80% of GDS seniors.

Look for yourself at the placements from area publics, especially Princeton & Stanford.

DP: What was the point in posting this list then? (when I saw it, I too thought I was looking at the Wilson list).

colleges aim for the average admit/acceptance for each school or area.
in that regard, if your school is pulling more % acceptances than each school's quote acceptance rate, that is impressive.

GDS does amazingly well in selective college admissions. They’re clearly doing something right.

Thoughts on entering GDS in 8th?
Do you think it might a good fit for a nerdy bright science/ tech boy who is very cerebral but also a good leader and self- motivated to do well. Best subjects are math and science but likes history etc. Not very athletic but would like club level or less competitive sports teams.
