I feel like I'm the only person whose parents didn't pay for my education

It is pretty easy to tell there is some troll on this page repeating the same shitty parent posts over and over again. Maybe even a teen to guilt a parent? It sure but we get it, parents should pay for everything. Sure...

It's only being repeated because it was being questioned.

And it is not being said to guilt a parent. Just to guilt the selfish skinflints.

Paid myself, mostly through loans. Took years to pay off the debt. Impacted lists of choices, but worth it. As a parent, if I could help I would.

My parents didn't pay a dime for my education. They didn't have the money. But that meant I got a huge discount from the pricey Ivy league school I went to. I had to work summers and 15 hours a week during semesters and over winter break, but I got away with only $11,000 in loans because of the generous financial aid package.

My parents didn’t pay my way, either. So I chose the school that offered me full-tuition merit aid, and covered the rest with part-time/summer jobs and loans.

PP here who has saved enough to cover grad school - or start up - or whatever. Nope, not born on 3rd base. Born to immigrant parents who paid nothing for my education (didn't even realize I was applying ... to community college). I had to borrow $2500 for my first semester at MoCo. My babysitting money helped pay the rent when I was a young teen. I opted for "early release" from high school, my senior year at the age of 15, so I could work at a five and dime 30 hours a week. Graduated at 16 and moved out soon after. Ended up doing great at a top grad school and have been successful - because of my own initiative and admittedly also a good bit of luck. I just happen to think my kids can have a better life and still succeed. I can make it happen, and I have worked my whole life to make it so. And wouldn't change anything about my life (or my kids').

Paid my own education for the most part. Parents paid $10K a year. I paid the difference. It taught me to value money more than many of my friends in school, who were very selfish with their parents money. Many even had direct bank accounts their parents would deposit money in monthly, for doing absolutely nothing. It was really strange.

I will pay for my child’s in-state tuition cost and nothing more. If they want to attend a premiere OOS, that is their choice, but I can not pay that price, nor do I think it is worth it. Looking for scholarships, merit, and financial aid packages will be more meaningful. Life lesson. You can’t always get what you want. Sometimes you have to be financially smart and make the best of it. Stag flagship is more than enough.

My parents did not pay for my college at all. I had to work all year round so did my wife. My wife worked full time 40 hours a week 52 weeks a year while going to school full time and living at home. We both resented it.

I am paying 100% for my kids schools. Dont need to torture them just cause I had to do it.
