no more immigration!

we just had a person get fired with over 25 years. cheap replaceable guest labor makes this possible. Vote for the working class, vote republican (god how sad that is )

Wasn't aware that the gov of Virginia was able to control immigration policy.

Weren't we talking about ILLEGAL immigration? And he can pull up the welcome mat.

Explain how he can pull up the welcome mat. Please. I'm begging you.

mandate E-Verify for all companies that work on state projects.

just a start

are you really that oblivious?

Are you that bad at research?
As of December 1, 2013, any employer with more than an average of 50 employees for the previous 12 months entering into a contract in excess of $50,000 with any state agency must use E-Verify to confirm the work authorization of new hires
found here: http://www.trackercorp.com/everify-legislation-map.php

So what you're saying basically already happens. Explain again how Gillespie will pull up the welcome mat.

shutdown the herndon day worker pickup by 7/11. easy to do

States and localities bear the primary responsibility for defining and prosecuting crimes. But beyond enforcing the laws or ordinances of their state or locality, state and local officials may also have the authority to enforce some federal laws, especially criminal laws. Immigration law provides for both criminal punishments (e.g., alien smuggling, which is prosecuted in the courts) and civil violations (e.g., lack of legal status, which may lead to removal through a separate administrative system).

If you really think a gov has no impact, you are clueless mr Z!

Yes! That labor pick-up place by the 7-11 is one of the worst spots in Herndon. Why does the state close a blind eye to the illegality of this enterprise? Are the employers paying off the 7-11 to allow these illegal aliens to congregate in their lot?

Thanks. This is making me start to think that a civics test should be a requirement for voting.

But you probably feel an ID should not be a requirement for voting. Right?

Dp and I wouldn’t care if a voter ID was required IF our state government ensured everyone could easily have access to one. Have employees of the state board of elections or the secretary of state’s office set up tables at grocery stores, gas stations, churches, and other places where people actually congregate. If you can prove your income is below a certain threshold or you receive certain government services or are a student or over 65, it should be free, otherwise no more than $10-$15. And if you don’t have a birth certificate, someone affiliated with the state would help you get the documentation you need to prove your identity. That’s the only way to make it fair - not the current system of go to the DMV when it’s open during regular business hours when lower income workers are likely to be, well, working, without the benefit of paid leave, and if you don’t have a birth certificate (often applying to poor and elderly African Americans ...) you’re basically screwed.

Of course, this endeavor would be quite pricey. But I’m sure it’s worth it to prevent the .000001% of “voter fraud” that exists right???

But somehow these poor and elderly African Americans managed to produce a birth certificate to get a social security number to be eligible for Medicare and Social Security. What are you talking about? There is no one here legally who does not need a government ID to function in our society. If they don't have one, how are they surviving? If they don't have one, all of these anti-Voter ID activists should be helping them get one and then helping them register to vote.

Absolutely. The majority of businesses are small, so this law allows most business to still hire illegals.

Handsmaid's Tale, here we come

Don't really care too much about this issue, but why are you afraid of having women understand and acknowledge the "choice" they are making? Are you afraid they will see a little person with a beating heart and change their mind? Having been pregnant four times, those ultrasounds are no big deal and take a couple of minutes. The state already dictates a bunch of things about people's bodies...

That's really a decision for a woman and her doctor. No woman should be FORCED to have a dildo cam shoved up her vagina just to make you feel better. Imagine a 10 year old rape victim being forced to go through that. Appalling.

This is not and never has been an issue. He was chair of the Virginia Republican Party in 2006. He's lived in Virginia as far back as I can remember. HE worked onnHill before that. And attended college here too. He left New Jersey decades ago and never looked back. He and his wife live near Mt. Vernon.

PRECISELY. Terry McAuliffe is a New Yorker, then a resident of DC, before moving to VA. Lots of people are born in raised in states other than the ones they wind up representing. And that's all a-ok, as long as they're not Republicans. Just more examples of the constant liberal hypocrisy.

Hold on there, pal. I absolutely held my nose and voted for McAuliffe. The GOP ran Cucinelli who was a far-right-wing nut. Don't deflect. The original point about Gillespie is that when a native resident of NJ says he will fight to preserve "our" heritage he means he will make sure we keep statues like the one in C'ville that's become a lightning rod, attracting KKK and neo-Nazis from all over the country. Why is this appealing to conservatives???

I don't think it's appealing.....it's just that it isn't a major issue to most voters. illegal immigration and the state's soft policy is, however. Tomorrow will be interesting.

Gillespie certainly thinks it's a major issue. He is spending big bucks on mailers on that issue. Between confederate statues and immigration he is making this about identity politics, not about what he can actually do for VA. The fact that he is unwilling to say these things in person-- only by mail or tv ad-- should tell you all you need to know.

Why do morons always fall for the No new taxes, less taxes, etc.? So glad I left Virginia.

Yeah, right? I would love for the voter ID people to tell me how easy it is to get an ID when I can only think of one DMV in NOVA that's even maybe within a five minute walking distance of a Metro. If people want to get to these locations without cars it costs time and money. Hello voter suppression.

Lots of things cost time and money. Sometimes in life adults need to spend token amounts of time and money for very important things like voting for elected leaders who affect the lives of everyone living in a community. I will never understand the “no IDs to vote!” people.

+1
It's just one excuse after another.

THIS. All of the wasted time and energy that anti-voter ID activists spend could so much more productively be spent on ensuring those without ID *get* ID. These activists could be driving those without ID to the DMV to make sure they obtain the needed ID. But no, they'd rather insist that making voter ID mandatory is unconstitutional.
