We looked at St. Anselm's and SWW for our son 4 years ago. He also decided to stay at Latin. We are very happy with his college acceptances (when I took a peak at SAA's it seemed to have a similar range). My son has been happy the last 4 years, has had great experiences, has had great teachers, taken classes that are challenging, but also has had time to pursue other interests. He has also gotten to know a diverse group of people. Latin is not private, not even a test in school, but everyone he knows is going to college or into the military. I don't really care how he does on his APs, but his pre-test scores indicated that he would get 4s and/or 5s. There are lots of school options. Finding one that works for your kid is more important than where it lands on the challenge index. Thanks for sharing your perspective! This reminds me that I have heard rumors that Latin's senior class received acceptances at some very highly competitive schools, but I can't find the details anywhere. |
| Very interesting, thanks for pointing this out. |

For some reason it hasn't been pasted anywhere ao I'm going to do it:
Acceptances to an array of excellent institutions, including Yale, Dartmouth, Cornell, and Stanford among others Wowowowowowowowowowowowowow!!! As someone who hasn't been impressed with Latin, I am THRILLED to eat my words! What a wonderful accomplishment!!!!! |
|
Congrats to Latin and its college counseling team on doing another great job. Latin also got its first UNC Chapel Hill Morehead-Cain Scholar this year. This is only their 4th or 5th graduating class, which makes these accomplishments even more impressive.

Who's the poor kid on the left wearing a gray polo... ??? |
Yes agree. I have never been a fan of Latin, but I'm so happy to be here eating crow. So thrilled for DC and these bright young kids. Genuinely happy. |
??? What do you think? I'm guessing he is a CIA. If Latin spills on his real identity, lives will be lost.

How can anyone "not be a fan" of any school? Why not say it's not for your kid but to actively say you're not a fan is weird. |
Let me spell it out for you. I don't get the hype. It doesn't impress me. The curriculum seems weak. The AP scores are terrible. The average SAT scores are low. Got it? Why don't we celebrate the accomplishments of these students instead? |
Why not compare Latin to average DC high school when you're claiming that you're not a fan? |
Yes but no one is gleeful when they get into Eastern. |
I would be gleeful if my DC kid attended a high school that had nearly 100% graduation rate and 4 year college acceptance. |
