Maybe I'm naive, but I thought realtors weren't really supposed to discuss schools? At least, our realtor never did (we also bought IB for Deal/Wilson).

They do all the time and love to use phrases like "highly sought-after Janney/Deal/Wilson district." They also mention all the nearby private schools.

Apart from the jumbo 30 kid 3rd grade class, class sizes are not 30. My kids's K class had 23 and 1st grade has 22 kids.

I know K is around 19, 1st ranges from 19-23, and 2nd is 23/24. FWIW 2nd and 4th grade are the "bubble years" and I think they've done a good job - this year - at making the class sizes smaller. Also, they've made more lunch periods and recess times to chill things about a bit in the common spaces. Yes, some kids eat lunch at 10:45 and 1:30, but the kids have settled into the schedule. The early lunchers get an afternoon snack, and the late lunchers get an early snack. I've got kids in both grades with the outlier lunch periods and they are having no issues with it. Overall, I think the principal and staff are doing a great job in making a big school work.

Hearst likely will get larger, fast. As neighborhood enrollment climbs, the logical thing for DCPS to do will be to ratchet back OOB student seats. But DCPS is unlikely to do that, or at least it is unlikely to do it much, because there are settled expectations and excess demand for places in schools west of Rock Creek Park. Hearst is one of the few schools that has reliably had a lot of OOB places and it will be politically unpopular for the mayor and chancellor to change that too much.

They have already decreased new OOB dramatically at Hearst. I think all they took this year a couple of OOB with sibling in PK. Even that they need to stop with numbers like 24 in K and 27 in first.
