Well, in my low rated south Arlington neighborhood, it's 600k houses. They are snapped up in a week, and it's a family with little kids. Not really seeing dinks anymore.

Of course a school where half of the kids are on free and reduced lunch and dont speak English at home is going to send fewer kids to the Ivy League than a school where less than 15% of the kids are on free lunch and 65% are white. It doesn't mean the school is terrible, it most likely means there are more students there whose parents probably didn't go to college. First-- please don't assume that everyone who cares about the quality of their kids schools supports Trump. You can be liberal, and still want your kids to have a decent sized cohort of smart, motivated peers at school. Most people I know think the kids can be black, brown, white, purple-- whatever, as long as the kids work hard and stay out of trouble. I would certainly rather have my kids be friends with minorities with good grades, involved parents and good values than the kids at the wealthier FCPS schools dabbling in cocaine and drinking (with their parents help). It is not about race or class. It's about values and priorities. Your kid values education, and is a nice, respectful human being? They are welcome at our house.

Second-- 1st generation college is a significant hook. A brown kid with less than HS educated parents probably stands as good (or better for comparable credentials) a chance at an Ivy admission than my white, affluent AAP kid. Which is as it should be. My kid has had advantages (private music lessons, ADHD tutor, great summer camps, etc) the poor brown kid could not afford. I have no problem with leveling the playing field. Even if my kid ends up at (horrors)!W&M and not Cornell.

Third-- few things are more important than a good education. I have zero respect for people who send their kids to a mediocre school so they can buy a bigger house, then act like I'm prejudiced because I bought less house to get a better school. Again-- priorities. The fact mine have to do with a good education and not a huge house does not make me a bigot.

Wakefield has been one of the lowest performing high schools in NoVa for decades. Mount Vernon and some of the schools in Manassas and Woodbridge are the only ones that are worse.
