| Horrible twang accent. I leave the room. |
|
I'm from the north east of England. I had to look up who she was a year ago or so, having had to switch off the TV to protect my ears. She's a bonny lass, yes, but my word..... One of the worst voices I've ever heard. It's not, to me, the accent, but the pitch and lack of any discernible timbre. Softly spoken, she is not. Laura, turn down the treble pet, you're scaring the dogs......
As it happens, my eldest daughter is currently at college in Philadelphia having secured a scholarship. Despite her upbringing on the cold North Sea coast, she has a very pleasant, neutral, cultured accent which is like music compared to the horror that Laura's vocal chords inflict. |
| Sadly I must agree. She is knowledgeable and very easy on the eyes but very hard on my ears. |
| What is wrong with the BBC? LT is ruining their reputation as the foremost news gathering source in the world. I find it hard to believe that those in power aren't aware of her insufferable intonations. Her "a's" are weapons! I am sure she has a softer voice (can you imagine being married to this verbal anomaly?) Like an alley cat's midnight cries...caterwauling indeed! I am on the verge of epileptic seizures due to this monster. Please, please fire her! Believe me, the BBC will benefit and the public will be most grateful. |
| I look forward to my BBC World News every evening but Laura Trevelyan has made it so intolerable to listen to because of her voice -- I put her on mute. Other news stations would have replaced her by now because I believe, in general, viewers are dissatisfied. As a contributor to PBS, please move her on another BBC position off the air. Please give us Jane O'B or someone comparable. |
|
Have you ever heard a Laura Trevelyn say the word campaign? It's enough to send you running for the hills.
As you can imagine it was pure torture listening to her during the recent elections. Her accent is truly awful and I totally agree with all the previous negative comments. Let's have Jane O' Brien on instead or even better Katty Kay! Anon |
| Laura Trevelyan I normally like British accents, but hers is terrible--irritating, grating. If she had a better pitch it might help, but I cannot listen to her at all. Put her on at a different time of day. |
| Oh so thankful. Jane is on this evening...truly music to my ears and so very calming even when the news can be awful. |
|
I am a Brit living in Canada and I have to agree with most of the entries. Laura Trevelyan’s accent is
Gawd awful, grating on the ears. Why does BBC keep this dreadful announcer on BBC World News. I have to mute her, can not stand her voice. |
|
The BBC needs to help this unfortunate announcer by providing elocution lessons. Her present accent is abominable.

| I'm very relieved I can enjoy listening to my BBC news this evening. Jane is on the air and she is wonderfully calming. I can focus on the news with Jane. |
| amen and amen and amen...I refer to her as the 'quacking lady" Can't her voice be trained? |
I just don't understand how they can keep her on TV. Her nasal caterwauling is too much to take. I have to turn off BBC America when they have her hosting!! |
Same here!!--I wish there was a way to get through to BBC about this! |
| When Laura is on the TV is off. Can't stand her voice. |
