Was this rude? A pet related question.

People here are acting like squirrels, birds and deer don't already have free range to shit up their yards. My dog's poop that I pick up is completely different. I only allow my dog to pee in the strip of grass between the sidewalk and the road, which isn't owned by the homeowner anyways.

People don't hate pets. I have pets. They dislike irresponsible pet owners.

So would you allow you husband to pee on your neighbors front lawn? What if it was only 10 inches from the sidewalk? It's not just about animal feces/urine being on the lawn, it's about disrespect. Your husband wouldn't do that because it's rude. Same thing for your dog to squat and take a crap on my front lawn. It's even worse if I'm standing right there watching it. You might as well add a middle finger while you're at it.

Your dog, your dog crap, your lawn. Don't pretend picking it up makes a difference. It's not always solid and you know it.

I could not have said it any better than this!!!!!!!!

Even though you picked it up (no points for following the law), you showed total disrespect by doing it in front of him.

I really hate neighbors like you.

I agree with this. It's one thing for your dog to poop on his lawn (some don't like it like other pps have said) but OMG, you had the dog poop on HIS lawn right in front of him? I am pretty laid back and it doesn't bother me when dogs pee or poop on my lawn, but I would be really offended if you let your dog do it right in front of me. That's so disrespectful.

I think it's common courtesy to not let your dog do that when the person is standing there. Let him have a squat when there's no one around. When my dog looks like he's going to have a hunker I drag him off to a more (further away, median, etc) acceptable area. I think your DH should have been more aware of the dog/quicker on the ball.

I wouldn't be upset like you are or let this get to you. He wasn't a jerk, he asked nicely enough. I would have said 'noted, thank you.' and tried to avoid their place when they were around.

You realize that humans are capable of thought and self control, right? Talk about a straw man!

I'm a PP up thread (and a dog owner). I think the last two PPs summed it up perfectly.

Ahh, another dog owner who won't take responsibility for their dog. Yes, humans are capable of thought and self control...and we are also capable of controlling our pets. It's called a leash and training. Mix that with respect for your neighbors and the problem is solved.

I like animals, but I'm not a dog person. I've owned a dog, whom I adored, but I'm not a dog person. I get that dogs need to do their business, I get that responsible owners scoop, I get that wild animals poop all over the yard all the time (and hey, probably some humans too). But it does irrationally annoy me when someone allows a dog to squat right in my yard. Note I said "irrationally." But please consider the viewpoint of the non-dog-person/homeowner.

A couple I don't know used to walk their dog every single morning by my house as I was heading back from dropping my kids at the bus stop. The dog would squat on the edge of my lawn as I was there, the owners would wave at me, they'd scoop, and I'd still (irrationally) wonder why they didn't seem to think it was a little rude to let their dog poop right in front of me in my yard without even acknowledging with a "Oops, sorry about that!" or "Hey, I'll pick that right up!" Even that would have improved my (irrational) feelings about this. Clearly the dog had established a routine but geez, people, I'm standing right here!

What makes you think it's irrational to be miffed about someone letting their dog shit on your lawn right in front of you? That sounds a bit doormat(ish) to me.

I actually am a bit doormattish; good observation. I say irrational because the owners were responsible and pleasant enough, the dog seemed like a nice dog, I don't have an HGTV lawn, and honestly, it isn't a life or death situation. Because of all these factors, it would not have been something I would have said anything about it even though it did annoy me.

Keep those thoughts to yourself or your yard will be the new neighborhood dog park

Pet owners don't realize that not everyone likes dogs or their poop on their property.

I own a fair number of animals beyond cats and dogs (have those too though!) and I have no patience with animal owners who feel they have the right to let their pets encroach on others. Your dog doesn't have the right to bark incessantly, wander in your someone's yard uninvited, or defecate or pee in someone's yard. It doesn't matter what YOU think about it or that YOU think it's okay, the property owner doesn't want dogs messing on his lawn, and that's his rig
