Donald Trump Questions Whether Arizona Senator John McCain Should Be Considered a War Hero

If Trump were a Democrat his campaign would be over. Republicans aren;t that bright or patriotic to hold this against him. He will continue on...

God, I do hope Trump is the Republican nominee. It will be the Goldwater effect all over again and probably change the House and Senate beck to Democratic majority as well.

Trump is a buffoon.

The Bouffant Buffoon.

Unfair to compare Goldwater and Trump. I disagreed with a lot of Goldwater's views, but he called it like he saw it. And unlike Trump, Goldwater was a serious politician (some would say statesman) and patriot.

I wish I shared your view about the House, but I'm afraid that the GOP has succeeded in many places in creating gerrymandered, almost bulletproof districts that will last for a generation at least. These districts have the effect of overstating and magnifying GOP support nationally, and also result in right of center congressman who are more afraid of a primary challenge from their extreme right than a competitive general election.

He's not a hero. Heroism involves doing things above and beyond the call of duty. He did nothing of the sort, even as a POW.

When and where did you serve, PP?

And which prison camp did you spend years in?

You don't need to spend time in a camp to know that the military has a code of conduct for prisoners of war. Those who follow the code are not "heroes". They are doing what is expected of them. The military also defines heroism as doing something above and beyond the call of duty. McCain did nothing of the sort in Vietnam.

If everyone who serves is a "hero" then "heroism" has no meaning and the military should give the Medal of Honor to everyone.

He is not. You are a liar.

Many Vietnam vets don't like Mcain- you can disagree with that but it is certainly true and you can verify it with some web searches.

You can dislike him without questioning him being a war hero. There is nothing inconsistent about disliking somebody while admitting they are a true war hero. But there is something wrong with somebody who allows their dislike to lead them into insulting somebody who bravely served our country.

Dick Cheney had other plans during the Vietnam War. I don't recall too many R's complaining about the de facto Commander-in-Chief being a draft dodger. They were too busy Swift Boating Kerry. Real patriotic hypocrisy in action.

Anyone who takes Trump seriously as a candidate is an idiot. He'll be forgotten by Xmas! No wait! Washington's stuck with him forever thanks to that lousy deal some other idiot made to give his name to the National Post Office Pavilion. OK, Trump fans, you have your monument.

You deserve him. America doesn't.

No, not necessarily. Make sure you have Democratic Governors in place after the next census in 2020 and the gerrymandering will go the other way - or do as California did and end gerrymandering all together.

I was in the United States Army for six years serving abroad - typing to preserve our freedom! (I was a paralegal). Everyone I have ever know, including the bravest in Afghanistan and Iraq wars, will tell you that John McCain was a hero in the Viet Nam war. Makes no difference what your political leanings or what he has done since his retirement from the service - he was a hero. You cannot change history to suit your mood or political ambitions.

I was a soldier but no hero. But I know heroes. John McCain is a hero.

The courts are starting to throw out the gerrymandered GOP districts - The State of Florida was just ordered to redistrict after it was proven the GOP rigged the districts.

It is only a matter of time before Trunp self-destructs but I was hoping the party would go on for a bit longer anyway! At least until the first debate.

Yes, I was hoping he would hang around until next summer. As it stands, he might collapse before he has a chance to insult women.
