By the way, regarding Nigeria? They might be half Christian, but the WaPo article makes it clear that several states have adopted sharia law and have imposed the death penalty for gay men. So it's not the Christian half...

And it seems in Uganda, the issue is being fought in the courts, which is quite civilized.

It seems Sharia law is the real issue here, i.e. Islamic law.

There is nothing civilized about a law that condemns gay people to death. The law in Uganda was passed by Christians and given very strong support by American Christian groups. Here is a Christian pastor that believes gay people should be killed:

"Well the Bible teaches actually that gays should be executed. Because it actually says in Leviticus 20:13 that if a man also lie with mankind as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination, they shall surely be put to death, their blood shall be upon them,"

http://www.christianpost.com/news/bible-says-gays-should-be-executed-and-i-believe-every-word-says-arizona-pastor-99583/

Here is another one:

http://www.patheos.com/blogs/progressivesecularhumanist/2014/09/megachurch-pastor-says-gays-must-be-put-to-death/

‘If a man sleeps with a man as with a woman, they have both committed a detestable thing. They must be put to death. And their blood is on their own hands.’

So, why are you not raving about Christians killing gays daily?

Regarding "Sharia", there is no agreed upon "Sharia". So, which "Sharia" is the problem? Do you even know the differences between various versions of "Sharia"?

Since you believe there is only one "Islam" and what some crazy cult does in Iraq must apply to every Muslim, you must also believe there is only one Christianity and one Judaism, right? So, what are the Christian and Jewish views of homosexuality? There couldn't possibly be more than one view for each of them based on your logic.

Why aren't you seeing that in every other country, it is Sharia law and that IS stands for Islamic State? When it comes to gay killings and the subjugation of women being mainstream, Islam seems to come out on top.

I'm sorry it is Islam that is wreaking havoc across the globe these days. I know you wish it was Jews or Christians. It's not

Wow, that's coherent. I doubt you have even the slightest understanding of Sharia and only a bigot such as yourself would suggest that IS represents all of Islam. IS is mostly fighting Muslims.

When my husband raided a home in Afghanistan one evening, during the course of the search for bad things that kill US Soldiers and Afghan civilians both, the found a lot of writings hidden away in a wall.

After their interpreter read all of the pages, he old them that the writings were nothing sinister.

They were poetry written by the 12 year old daughter of the home.

He also said that the girl was very upset because when her family saw that she had written such poetry, about her love for a boy on their village, she likely would be stoned to death. It was a very rural village in a very hardline province.

The interpreter kept all of the writings, and destroyed them back at base.

I wish that all those who defend Islam would have to live in such a place for 30 days.

I have lived and worked in those countries.

It is beyond the comprehension of civilized humans, what occurs there.

When you defend Islam, you don't even have a conception of the depravity and horror you defend.

It takes a particularly stupid person to believe that a single family in a remote village of Afghanistan represents all of Islam. I've lived in a Muslim country for a lot longer than 30 days. So, you got your wish.

No, you living as a protected white male American citizen in a Muslim country isn't what I wished.

You living under sharia law as a citizen of a Muslim country would be my wish.

If you lived in a Muslim country and still defend Islam, I'd wonder how much you actually saw and interacted with the populace.

And your absolute lack of compassion or care that millions of women and girls live under a religion that can and will kill them for writing poetry, daring to be raped, etc, as well as not allowing them basic human rights is stunning, and telling.

If you need to resort to personal insults, your point is lost. Remember that when engaging in conversation. People shut down

Where do I demonstrate a lack of compassion? What is true in a remote village of Afghanistan is not true everywhere. It doesn't take a lot of intelligence to realize that and it doesn't suggest a lack of compassion to point it out.

Do you really lead such an isolated life that you have not met and befriended Muslims? Did you not attend a university and meet Muslims women studying there? I really struggle to understand how someone who is presumably an adult can truly come to the belief that what her husband saw in a remote village in one of the most underdeveloped places on earth was representative of anything other than that village. Can you imagine someone landing in Appalachia and encountering people speaking in tongues and engaging in snake handling and then going home to tell people that what she encountered represents all of Christianity?

Well-said from someone who clearly has her eyes open. Your husband and the intepreter are good people. Thank you.

If you can't write a coherent sentence, your point gets lost anyway. Given the bigotry that fills your posts, we'd all be better off if you shut down.

The way progressive liberals defend their points of view is telling others that everything they hear and see is just 'isolated'. It permeates all their politics. There's no point in trying.

Again with the insults. You've proved my point.

I wish that the world could see first hand how girls and women are treated in Muslim countries and under sharia.

It is beyond evil. I am disgusted anyone would ever defend or ignore it or say it is isolated. It is not.

It is slavery and degradation of women and girls of the most evil form. Women and girls can be and are being raped, sold, abused in every conceivable way, murdered, mutilated, etc. Everyday all day long.

People who defend it are either evil or willfully blind.

Saudi Arabia is wealthy, not backwater, and is one of the worst offenders.

College: the pinnacle of a liberal's experience. The Muslim women who live in America and are privileged enough to attend college here are a handful, compared to the millions who live under Islam around the world.

My husband and I both saw examples of such depravity.

From Desert Storm and medically caring for Kurdish people gassed by Saddam Hussein, to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

it has been eye opening and life changing, to say the least.

I can barely contain my disgust when people defend this base and pervasive evil.

Muslims who come to America should have to return to their home countries and fight the evil there. Coming here and living in safety is cowardice.
