MCPS is a mess because there aren't enough poor people, brown people, and immigrants in charge? Is that your point? |
| MCPS is a mess because the leadership and teachers are not in synch or philosophically aligned with the goals and aspirations of the students they purport to lead and teach. In light of this disconnect, for an example, it should not surprise anyone, the leadership of MCPS does not even reflect the goals and aspirations of the large contingent of immigrant families in the County. They pay taxes but have no representation. |
My point is above. Do you agree? |
If they were philosophically aligned, what would they believe? |
| A few American immigrants in MCPS leadership might spread a different education philosophy to this tired old crony legacy MCPS guard. I don't know whether this would be enough for them to believe, or whether one has to wait until they are all pushing up Chesapeake daisies. |
Believe what? |

Arghh STOP!
Agree to disagree. If MCPS Math 2.0 is not serving your needs, consider supplementing at home. If it is benefiting your child then good for you! |
|
MCPS curriculum is open to interpretation. So the same indicators are taught and assessed differently from school to school. It's so frustrating!!!
Textbooks, workbooks, & websites aligned to MCPS's version of common core should be provided. Teachers need to be on the same page and instructing the same way. And parents need to be able to reference these methods for remediation at home, if needed. |
Agree with this wholeheartedly. DD is struggling in math this year (first) and I asked the teacher if it would be beneficial to meet to discuss how she is teaching math so I can be sure to do it the same way at home. I heard NOTHING back. So I am attempting to supplement at home using terminology and methods that are probably not the same as CC. |
| There is a handout for each unit for parents. You should ask for that if the teacher isn't already sending it home. |
A handout that shows how they are teaching math? |
Is it too much to ask a school system with a 2.29 BILLION dollar budget, to effectively teach math? Why should I have to work my butt off paying taxes, the school system take half of a weatlhy county like MoCo's tax base and then have to teach my child basic math at home at night? Does that really make sense to you. Come on, this is not cutting edge rocket science, it's basic education. There is no excuse for this shit curriculum that has been foisted on our kids. |
A handout that shows what they are teaching. |
That is not a curriculum problem; it's a teacher problem. If I were you, I would consider following up with the principal. The teacher should have responded. |
There were plenty of complaints, right here on DCUM, about the MCPS math curriculum that preceded the math part of Curriculum 2.0. |
