"An execution-style murder, also known as Chicago-style murder and execution-style killing, is an act of criminal murder where the perpetrator kills at close range a conscious victim who is under the complete physical control of the assailant and who has been left with no course of resistance or escape. Execution style killing is most often a shot to the head, and victims sometimes are killed kneeling." |
Well, IMHO, the skin tone and hair and general ethnic look of the victims is relatively nondescript, and could be Hispanic, southern European, North African, Central Asian, Middle Eastern, Jewish, etc. But religious dress (and the names, if one happens to know the individuals' names) are Muslim. |
Right, and the father is not in a position to know whether that fact pattern you just described covers the horrific incident last night. Nor is Jeff. He wasn't there, because if he had been, he'd be dead now. The police certainly wouldn't tell him those details either. He was speaking hyperbolically. And yes, it matters. Because if it were actual execution-style, that infers torture and deliberation rather than flying off the handle and shooting one of them as part of a long-running spat (whether or not his disgust for their religion is relevant) and then deciding to shoot the others too because they were there. So, yes, this is an important detail. No one in authority has described this as "execution-style" or said anyone was shot at "point-blank range." |
Why are your friends wearing a ?ij?b if they are not Muslim like those ladies? |
I agree. Isn’t every murder a “hate crime” of sorts? I personally don’t care for the label “hate crime.” Most crime is indeed, hateful. |
Well, there's a lot of hostility on this thread. My view is that this is horrific if American-Muslims were targeted for their religion and ethnic heritage. There's no indication that these folks were anything but young (very young) law abiding, conscientious, well-meaning people just living their lives. Not crazy radicalized Islamicized muslims. If, on the other hand, they were truly targeted because the perpetrator was angry at them over some sort of parking dispute, it's equally horrific and we're back to needing some sort of controls on letting crazies like this guy get their hands on guns. It's also tragic that if the Muslims in the apartment had had their own gun and managed to fend off this crazy dude who entered their apartment (the consummate argument of the pro gun nuts), they would now be being maligned in the media as crazy radicalized Moslems by the right wing media, no doubt ("3 armed muslims shoot friendly white neighbor who mistakenly wanders into their apartment"). It's a very fucked up situation, and extremely disheartening to this moderate, liberal muslim woman. |
If only the people who lived in the area would denounce these acts. Sadly this will not happen. If only the moderate voices in North Carolina would denounces these killings. |
No it doesn't mean they were tortured. It means they were not resisting him and he shot them in the head. He was probably close to them since he shot them in their apartment. Even if they were asleep it would have been an execution, imho. |
Sounds like from this article that he was an equal-opportunity asshole:

No, "Execution-style" has a very specific mean, as described by a pp. There's ZERO evidence that happened. |
They are from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Arab, etc. They are a mix of Muslim, Christian and Buddhist. Really, they mostly dress American, but occasionally on FB dress formally and all the dresses look the same to me. |
"Execution-style" has whatever meaning the user intends when they say it. There is no legal definition. That said, the father reported that three people were shot in the head, "execution style". |
The guy executed them. I have no objections to Jeff's use of the word as that's the net result of his actions. And Jeff will tell you we don't often agree.
This was a heinous act. |
I one hundred.percent agree with you. Murder is murder is murder. |
I disagree. Murdering someone because of a dispute is different from murdering someone for the color of their skin, or their religious faith. |
