I doubt any of them will be tracked down and tried at this point. But it can't be that hard to figure out at least who her date was. Based on the article, we know that he was Phi Kappa Psi, when he graduated, and most importantly that he worked as a life guard. Fraternities are not that big (not like sororities). His close friends & parents have got to know based on this article. So even if he doesn't get tried, he is probably shitting bricks now. I wonder how his parents feel.

I realize that rape (or even gang rape) happens elsewhere. But what is so chilling about this is that it was so premeditated, planned & plotted. Usually you hear of gang rape happening at a party gone bad. A wild party where everyone is drunk and things get way out of hand (not that that makes it better). But here, he asked her out for this purpose. The guys were waiting for her when he brought her into the room. They punched her, they raped her with a bottle... I mean, this is sick stuff. And the most appalling things is they fully expected to see her around campus (he worked with her, one had a class with her). And he would approach her on campus. You can only conclude that they didn't think they did anything wrong.

Chief Longo is head of the Charlottesville PD. They've been formally asked to investigate and are now investigating.

My thoughts exactly. Rape is wrong period, no matter how it is done. But this kind of gang rape and the response by UVA is chilling.

Someone on another website is saying as a taxpayer, why are we tolerating this AT ALL??

Why do you all instantly believe a story told in Rolling Stone Magazine? There's holes all through piece. We all know how reporters have gotten into trouble for completely making up fake stories.

Yes, they have. Which is why Rolling Stone magazine is not going to go to print, and risk ruining its reputation, without vetting this story first.

+1. Reputable journalists rely on several sources to corroborate a story. Reputable magazines insist on this and often have their own checkers.

Not only that but there are websites where tons of UVA graduates are posting comments saying that either they were victims of sexual assault at UVA, as early as 70's & 80's, or that they knew someone who was. I didn't go to UVA but I certainly did my share of partying there because I had lots of friends there, and I was always surprised at how WILD that Rugby Rd got on friday nights. I was not surprised at all when a few years back, Playboy named UVA as #1 party school in the country. Provided how hard it is to get into UVA, you would think I would have been surprised but because of what I knew, I was not.

What disgusts me most is nearly the exact same thing was rumored to have occurred, including the bottle, at the same fraternity 30 years ago when I was an undergrad. I am now wondering if this isn't some sick thing that's happened there every-year. I cannot people NOT going to prison if this does indeed turn out to be a 'ritual' at at least that fraternity.

Jesus - I just read that article. Completely sickening. I fully agree with what some others have said: university admin should be required by law to report rape allegations to the police. Just unbelievable.... That story was so incredibly brutal - how could any administrator hear that story and NOT think something along lines of these sick predators need to be rounded up and taken OUT of circulation before they hurt another student??!? I just really don't get it. More and more, I'm feeling so furious at universities. Their insane tuition hikes every year, their useless bloated admin staff and salaries, and yet they don't even hire professors anymore. They just rely on armies of low-paid, uninsured adjuncts who then have to rely on employed spouses or government assistance to get by. It's the effing Walmart system. And now, we keep hearing about these horrifying instances of univ admin staff trying to hush up cases of rape? Christ, I wish there was a way to criminally charge THEM.

Oh and I heard UVA's president suspended frats 'til Jan 7th. Otherwise known as winter break. Total useless PR bullshit.

They will all be disgusting alcoholics who think they are the life of the party.

The number and caliber of horrrifying events that have taken place over the past few years speak for themselves - something is terribly wrong at UVA.

Drunk people do bad things. As long as binge drinking continues as a way of life on college campuses, bad things will continue to happen including rape.

People are blind to the reality of college. Overpriced 4 years of binge drinking yet parents and students are killing themselves trying to get into some of these schools.
