You do not appear to be referring specifically to the college, so at a higher governmental level, we have a democratic Gov and 2 dem senators plus voted for Obama. How do you call this even slightly conservative, much less a "wet dream." Maybe if you used language and wording less like trailer trash, you would be treated better than trailer trash. If you are that bitter towards the "fucking disaster" that is Va, maybe you should move.

Not disagreeing, but really, these sort of unwieldy comments just derail the particular conversation the OP was intending to have. Go start your own thread with your own rants.

+1. The political forum awaits.

I completely believe it, and I know rape culture is endemic everywhere and particularly at colleges where fraternity life is big, but still I am stunned and disgusted and horrified that UVA did absolutely nothing about numerous reports of gang rapes at Phi Kappa Psi.

I went to college in the late 1990s (not UVA) and was similarly stonewalled/blacklisted/shunned for reporting my assault. My grades dropped and I lost my scholarship. The man who assaulted me raped multiple other girls in our dorm (he was the RA), but none of them would come forward for fear of what it would do to their reputations. I'm sad to see nothing has changed.

Why do you all instantly believe a story told in Rolling Stone Magazine? There's holes all through piece. We all know how reporters have gotten into trouble for completely making up fake stories.

Regardless of the quality of reporting, I find it disturbing that universities even feel equipped to handle rape allegations internally.

The crux of the entire matter is that - whether they're telling the truth or not - an entire educational administration has not thoroughly investigated those claims. I don't see how you can dispute that.

+1. Nationwide, women are reporting their attacks. Are you saying they're all lying to get 15-minutes of fame from reporters

I wouldn't go as far as disbanding all frats and sororities because many of them are academic and do wonderful community service.
But the beer drinking, girl raping, belly bumping frats should have their chapters removed. Georgia Tech just had a chapter revoked because of rape bait emails.

Really? Which ones? I went to a college where there were frats and this was not something I noticed. Plus, the bad seems to radically outweigh any possible good in this case.

I am so sorry this happened to you. I hope you have been able to get help.

Really? That's your takeaway -- That RS has made this whole story up?

Thanks. I have moved on. I'm still bitter and would love to go back in time and press actual legal charges, but I was a dumb 17 year old girl at the time and I trusted the adults in charge. You bet I learned a lesson about that and will advice my children accordingly.

Unfortunately, reputable greek fraternities and sororities are now lumped together. Come on, just because they didn't exist at your school doesn't mean they don't exist. Also, they aren't as big as the traditional fraternities.

These are primarily professional networking frat/soroities. I had friends in Sigma Theta Tau and Sigma Phi Delta (NOT to be confused with Delta Sigma Phi), nursing and engineering. I never heard or saw anything reprehensible though these were small, egghead (term used in the nicest way possible) houses.

PP here. I just did some research and saw that the Marquette University chapter of Sigma Phi Delta has been placed on probation until May 2016 for hazing. I guess there are some cracked eggheads in that chapter.
