Seriously - all this grief over Joan Rivers?

No one is watching my reaction. I am not a public figure. I was hoping Joan Rivers would pull through but she died, and I am saddened by that. I am also saddened by the assholes whose company I keep on DCUM, who don't understand that right after someone dies is not their time to talk shit about them. Y'all suck.

RIP Joan Rivers.

Joan Rivers' comedy wasn't really my thing. It was a bit too crass and bitter for my tastes. I also never understood her obsessive need to stay forever young and thought all the plastic surgery looked grotesque and ridiculous. Still, there's no denying she's been an influential entertainer, and I do believe her comedy belied a certain insecure vulnerability combined with the strength of someone who was a survivor. I've no problem with people mourning her death. Rest in peace, Joan.

The irony is that she would have fit right into DCUM with its bitchiness, snark, judgmental attitudes, etc!

To 12:16 - I think the word you are looking for is humor. Joan's humor would have fit right in.

Totally agree. Her detractors here just don't see the obvious.

Look at any list of top rated comedians- past and present - and Rivers name is rarely mentioned.

Prove it.

Google is your friend - try it.

I didn't make the original assertion, but thanks.

I like her more now that I saw A Piece of Work on Netflix. Re the plastic surgery, she said she had a few procedures and then got angry that everyone was doing it but not talking about it, so she decided she would talk about it and then suddenly she was a spokeswoman for it.

She worked really hard and she did not seem to get much respect. I think people still remember the Johnny Carson fiasco and sort of hold it against her, even though if it had been a man in her positioned would have been fulfilling his potential, not betraying his mentor.

I think there must be a great deal about being a femLe comedienne that really, really sucks.

RIP, Joan.

Her holocaust jokes remind us of the atrocities --- and it's a good thing since generations younger than me don't really seem to have a real grasp of it. So, while shocking and certainly not PC, the jokes serve a purpose by keeping the topic alive.

You just don't get her comedy. But many of us do...including her peers in the comedy world who adored her.

Ps - just because a person tells a crass/racist/whatever joke doesn't mean they personally are crass/racist/whatever. You need to learn to separate the jokes from the person.

So its OK to be a racist if you are funny (or think you are)?

Define racist joke? None of the jokes listed in the link of her most offensive jokes was racist.

If you read the comments of many of the comedians who have commented on her death, you will see that relatively few praise her comedic talents but they do acknowledge that she was the one who broke through what was until her arrival a segment dominated by men. Even some of her detractors acknowledge this to be a fact. But her ability as a comedian pretty much ended with her late night talk show hosting ending up as a flop.

Admittedly there are a few among her peers who think she continued to be funny but they are a minority. The simple truth is that nasty attacks that demean other people and making racist jokes are not well received especially when they are a staple of a comedian's humor. Sadly, that was her trademark and all that she was capable of doing.

She was at the facility for an endoscopy and the doctor saw something and decided to do a biopsy. She had only signed off on the endoscopy and the biopsy should have been done in a hospital. Medmal and suspension?

Oh and during the biopsy, her throat seized, restricting her airway, then she had the heart attack.
