I cannot wait to read the tell-all penned by whichever one escapes! |
| So if sex is only for procreation does that mean that the husband is going to go without for the next 9+ months? Poor thing just got started. |
Sex is not only for procreation - that is just more DCUM nonsense. |
Quiverfull folks are all for married sex! However they don't use contraception. They believe that sexual relationships between married individuals are a gift from God and should not be limited or manipulated to influence (avoid) procreation. They believe that all children are a gift from God and should be joyfully received as God sees fit resulting in mega families. |
What blather. She mostly just quotes what other anti-Duggar writers have said and makes all kinds of assumptions and guesses. Most of her writing on what they believe comes from sources also attacking what they believe and not from any actual writings about their beliefs. I am not a Duggar Defender - I have only seen a few episodes of the show but I too grew up in a similar environment and so when I read things like... "The fact that the Duggar children look happy does not actually tell you anything about whether they are happy. The Duggars follow parenting methods that teach that children should only ever be allowed to be cheerful, smiling, and happy. Yes, really. Those are the only emotions that are permitted." I realize she is writing gibberish. |
|
PP, maybe you didn't grow up in quite the same environment as that author.
Seems to me some of her quotes come from the people the Duggar's have been following. |
|
Other religious cults exist, why is it hard to believe that the Duggar's belong to a cult-ish religious group?
I've heard Michelle refer to girls needing to "keep sweet." That phrase is also used by some Mormons and others. |
Most of her quotes come from other (anti Duggar) people writing about the people they say the Duggar's are following. Or they are brief quotes with little context. I am not pro Duggar, I just don't think it is a well written article. She didn't grow up in the same culture as the Duggar's either - just similar in that her parents had similar parenting practices...based on what she can gather. |
Actually, she did. Her parents followed Gothard/IBLP and the Pearls. |
Right, and so do the Duggars. |
Exactly. She is intimately familiar with the subject-matter. |
That is like saying any two couples who both read Ferber are similar and their kids are growing up in similar homes. Reading an author doesn't make you the same. ATI is a homescooling program - again two families using the same program do not mean they are the same. The Duggar's identify as independent Baptists and attend a Baptist Church. |
ATI is a cult. |
ATI is pretty involved though...not like just ordering Abeka. They have these weird conferences and choirs made up of children who were conceived after their parents' vasectomy/tubal ligations were reversed. I wish I was making this up. I dated a guy who grew up in this community. There were home videos of the choir. |
