I'm pretty comfortable in my belief that you can be proud of your children without slapping a sticker on your car. I also think you can be "extremely accomplished" without bragging about it on anonymous discussion boards. Its how i was raised. Be proud but don't brag. And I'm always incredibly impressed when I meet people and then find out from others how "incredibly accomplished" they are because they wouldn't ever brag about it themselves.

Bragging about your kids seems even worse to me because in some ways its a burden to them, all this living out their parents' fantasies and being displayed for their bragging rights. I don't feel a need to do this -- my kids have their lives, the things they love to do and that they do well, and its their business. Their accomplishments are not for me to brag.

As I said, I was raised differently. My "extremely accomplished" parents were humble and kind.

BS! No accomplished person with very accomplished parents begrudges anyone a sticker on his car or 'bragging' about their children.

You are clearly an UNDERachiever who can't even measure up to the teens of the obviously accomplished adults on this board.

Try again with someone who doesn't know the mindset of accomplished people. They don't begrudge anyone their success or their right to mention it.

You sound exactly like the type of crashing bore that posters regularly note they can't wait to escape from, no matter what the topic.

Thank you!

And your DC's acceptances and final decision?

+100
This is the type of parent who must have migrated over from the AAP forum. Cut from the same cloth.

No kidding. What has happened to the College Forum? It used to be informative and supportive. I hate how a few can ruin it for the rest.

What happened? Insecure, petty 'adults'. I mean, did you read the first response? A supposed adult attempting to insult a kid's college choice. I mean, at least the kid has an impressive list to select from. It's been said that many of the parents are competitive and can't stand to not measure up ot others. If they'd put down the measuring stick and just live their lives, they'd have much better results.

On the other hand, there's no reason this cannot be a helpful and positive thread.

Everyone needs to make a pact to simply ignore the trolls and continue with the topic at hand.

But she earned acceptance, wants to go, and we'll make it work for her. No stickers on my car---not my thing for any reason--but don't begrudge those who do.

This is so similar to our situation; DC was accepted to the same schools but chose JMU. We are also public school employees! Haven't decided about the car sticker, but have no problem either way.

Just curious about why your DC chose JMU. And why PP's chose UVA.

Congrats and good luck to both families!

Probably money. That is actually a major consideration for the 90% of families who don't have a hundred grand laying around.

Poor DC. What's her sticking point? What do you think will be the determining factor for her?

So true! BUT in-state tuition is very doable. $10,000 or so per year is much better than $40 K out of state.

Curious about why VCU over Marymount because Marymount was a consideration for us as well. What student goes to Marymount? I know that it made a great back-up for us but DC had many other options.
