UMD College Park LEP Business (accepted to scholars) instate, VATech Engineering OOS (not sure of major, keeping options open by applying to the limited enrollment programs), University of South Carolina and Towson. Towson was the safety, Carolina was the first choice. Towson offered a full ride, UMd gave us 5000 in merit for each year (20,000) VA tech gave 5000 first year no guarentee subsequent years and Carolina gave him instate tuition and he must maintain a 3.4 Gpa. He will be a gamecock come August. Sorry for the typos-ipad

I'm sorry, but who are the game cocks?

Congrats!

Scholarships definitely sweeten the deal.

Gamecocks are South Carolina

What did you think of Rhodes?

South Carolina. Very pretty school!

DD was also accepted to South Carolina with instate tuition. It had been her first choice until she was accepted to Villanova, where we'll pay full freight.

Congrats!

But could you please clarify the final decision: Was it SC or Villanova?

And you guys would forego a full ride to pay full freight? That's great and your family's perogative but a tiny part of me went "Yikes!" But if it works for your family and all is happy!!!

That's us. South Carolina with instate tuition had always been the front runner (DD was accepted in December and really liked the school). Villanova was a dream school DD applied to (mostly because it was a common app school) and was recently accepted. We always told the kids they could go anywhere they were accepted and they'd have no school debt (this was very important to DH because his parents provided zero support). So, yes, we're full pay at Villanova and DD is beyond thrilled.

What is wrong with you people? You are posting such specific information that your children are identifiable. Why would you do that? Its their lives, not yours, and its not a game where you show your hand at the end. Its one thing to say the specific school your child will attend (though I have to ask: why?) but its another to list all the schools AND the financial aid. Do your children know you are doing this?

Why would the children care about the financial award info? Any financial aid my child is (or is not) given is due to MY financial situation. Those are MY tax forms we used to fill out the FAFSA. And why is a financial or merit aid award a state secret anyway? What harmful information could possibly be gleaned from that?

There is no way that anyone is identifiable to a stranger here. I suppose there is a remote chance that someone who already knows me or DC could look at a list of colleges and think, those are the schools Larla applied to. In which case, they already know where Larla applied, they likely already know where Larla will attend, and I don't care if they know Larla is going there because she got a big merit aid award. In fact, I'm happy to tell people about schools that are generous with aid for kids with stats like my Larla's. So in fact, I feel the exact opposite about sharing this info--I don't care who recognizes me and I don't think the info is personal in any way, and I actually WANT to share it.

So, what's wrong with you, why do you think this info is so personal that it can be shared on an anonymous board?

Just avert your eyes. Or keep your finger from clicking the thread. Problem solved.

But it is useful to know how the game has worked out for others. For example, without this thread, I would not have known that South Carolina offers in state tuition to some OOS students.

I also like hearing about schools that I might not gave thought to mention to DC as possibilities he should explore.

And it is kind of a game, isn't it?

Not to mention that the result - a commuter campus of U. Mass. - is seriously anti-climatic given some of the other schools to which your DC was admitted. You do know a lot of people associate that school primarily with the Boston Marathon bomb suspect, right?

You can just call it "Dartmouth" rather than its full name.

Yes, and the Unibomber is an alumnus of that other Boston-area school called Harvard.

LOL!

Some people are so uptight I wonder how in the world they actually live (if you can call what they do living).

Breathe in and out, PP.

You are soooo ridiculous it's not even funny. Perhaps you should head to the explicit sex forum and find someone to get laid.

There's nothing identifiable about a list of freaking schools that received tens of thousands of applications.

Not one person who knows me or DC would be able to identify us from a random list of schools applied to.

Do you know how many kids (from this area) will be going to SC? WM? UMass? You sound like a fool.

UMass Dartmouth and Dartmouth are two different beasts. The latter is an ivy.
