That essay was really bad.

He wrote it, not his parents or an editor.

My White friends call them education consultants. Akin to an agent for ball players. Some of these folk use these educational agents to get into PK...then College.

How can we really identify the outlier 2% if you can mimic them if you spend enough money and/or time? Gaming system doesn't really mean you are the 2%.

The black kid's parents are from Ghana. The Ivies like minorities with direct Afrian roots and less so for African American kids. This kid's EQs were not stellar..but fine.

Simply put, w/o being black, he would not have gotten into 8 Ivies...maybe 2...Cornell and Brown.

Just checked w/ SIL whose kids got into Yale and Cornell, and one got into Princeton, white and Jewish. Neither daughter was above 2250, but she did not have the exact numbers. I sent her this thread.

Thank you for posting this. However, the posters don't want to hear about your white nieces getting accepted into the Ivies with less stellar scores than this kid They want to continue to tell themselves that a Black kid can only get into the schools because he is an URM. Racism has never died.

I wonder what the psychiatric treatment is costing TJ families. Or don't they have time for mental health councelling services?

Do the private schools post their averages? Bet not because they would be no better than TJ or even Whitman.

Maybe their mental health bills are less than TJ's and Whitman's. Maybe not.

They would be higher if the average scores were posted and the parents went NUTS.

Still not seeing it!!

....The senior at William Floyd High School applied to 12 colleges because he feared he wouldn’t get into a single one.

He now must choose from the eight Ivies — Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania, Princeton and Yale — which boast acceptance rates of 14 percent to 5.9 percent.

He also was accepted into four non-Ivy schools: Duke, Stony Brook University, SUNY Geneseo and Binghamton University.

Smart chap. A Black male student can never trust (or leave to chance) he will get automatic admittance nod from an Ivy school --- particularly when the admission officers may be like many of the DCUM posters. It is simple not the historic theme or precedent of this country's fine heritage. If your name is not Bush do not assume you will get in any where. That's got to be your mind set.
Leave no stone unturned and if you are lucky count your blessings and make a choice. Some prefer to have the cards in their hands rather then game the system (like many we know here) and apply ED!!

I agree. No foul here except for writer's cramps filling all the application papers. Choice is preferable over none.

That essay was really bad.

What essay? Are you on the admission team?

Do you really think the kid, the admissions committees at ALL eight schools, his parents, and a cast of thousands really care about your critique? Really?
