What do your accomplishments have to do with your childrens' abilities and talents? Maybe your nanny's kid is a genius and benefits from time with a parent who isn't a workaholic? |
| When my parents immigrated to the states, she worked as a nanny. They still wanted the best for me. I ended up at Harvard. I received a full ride. DH and I now earn almost $1 million a year and support my parents financially. They had no retirement savings. |
No one thinks she's horrible because she has money. We think she's horrible because she's apoplectic that her nanny's kid is appluing to GDS. Obviously. |
| Op you are so classist. |
No way. Seriously, that is not happening at Sidwell. I've had 2 kids graduate and have one left there, all lifers, and the most I have heard (from parents and administrators) is 60% FA. Sidwell doesn't have that kind of endowment, and the fundraising they do every year for scholarship aid can't keep pace. |
+1 |
From the Sidwell website: "In keeping with Quaker tenets, Sidwell Friends School seeks a student body that represents varied economic backgrounds. In 2013-2014, 23 percent of our students will receive approximately $6,200,000 of financial aid support with an average aid award of $21,938, which covers nearly two-thirds of the average tuition cost." If the average is 66%, then presumably some kids are getting more than that. |
So this year only 23% of the entire pre-K thru 12 gets financial aid? If Sidwell gets 77% of students to pay full price, FA has to come into play during admissions. Because I am sure a LOT of applicants need something, and they take so few new students. That just seems like a small percentage of students on aid as a whole, doesn't it? |
How is this hateful? The 2nd nanny was an employee that exhibited less than desirable behavior. Asking for a raise and a modified work schedule after 3 months is unprofessional. The hours/pay were negotiated and accepted - then she changed her mind after her kid got into a private school. How does that behavior exhibit any care for the children she "raised" for 3 months? The first nanny received additional paid leave to attend open houses/tours for private and public school application process. We filled out the forms for her and paid for the application. She lived beyond her means and was constantly asking for help financially. When her child didn't get into private school she chose to move out of DC instead of attending the excellent JKLM public school her child got into via lottery. She still sits for our family on occasional weekends because she can "barely get by" on the reduced salary she makes in her new job outside of DC. It's not "hateful" to evaluate an employee's behavior. |
| Bday parties at bowling alleys are expensive parties now? PP, I'm willing to bet your housing costs were significantly higher than your previous nanny. An iphone and duck pin bowling cant compare. |
