This is where the anonymity of this forum really bugs me. This thread is ridiculous. OP, do not let the troll posters impact what you do. Seriously, you and dh take the kids out, and don't give it a second thought. Like pp's have said, you'll only be keeping them company like this for a few years, little kids don't stay out long anyway, if someone is determined to get candy from your house, they'll circle back when your home. I handed out candy for 20 years before I had kids, I'm not going to stress out about not being home for half an hour for a few years. Sheesh. |
We always ask a friend (she is single, no kids) to come over and help hand out candy, so we always have someone at the door. Out kids are 2 and 4, so trick or treating does not last that long. We end up handing out candy for an hour after our kids get back. They love seeing the big kid costumes and handing out candy. |
Do you think one person stayed up all night to post? Lol. |
OP, definitely both go. Especially if you live on a street where few people trick or treat. Seriously. Leave a bowl if you like, and enjoy your children. That's not in the least rude. |
This is how we do it. My sister is single and her building doesnt have a lot of kids so she loves coming over to hand out candy. Our kids are young so we really only hit a few houses on our street only. She usually sits on the front steps to hand out the candy so for the most part, she can see our kids anyway as they go house to house. |
OK this is OP. Thank you for the comments (at least the non-hostile ones). DH and I will still take both our kids - not because one of us can't handle the kids alone, but because they are only little young and we really want to enjoy this time as a family while while they need us (even my older kids are still too young to go up to front doors by themselves). In a couple years when they are more independent, only one parent will go.
We will leave a bowl of candy while we are gone. Like I said earlier, we get very few trick-or-treaters on our part of the street (maybe 5 all night). I think thats why I don't consider it to be fun to stay home -- it was a bummer the years before we had kids when we really got no trick-or-treaters. After we get back home we will answer the door and hand out candy. |
meant they are only little for a short while, not only little young |
Apparently the world revolves around you and your kid though. Get a grip. |
Really? Selfish bitch?! What a nutter you must be to say this. |
This has to be one sock puppet who feels so strongly that someone must be home. Please, god, let it be a sock puppet. I don't want to live in a world where several people, let alone sufficient posters to fill this many pages, actually get this fired up about a dark house on halloween night. |

I believe there is one psycho truly invested in this, and then there are the usual suspects for whom nastiness is contagious. |
We never do anything for Halloween and it never occurs to me we owe anything to anyone. You can't force people to play if they don't want to. I will leave the bowl of candy outside or not, at my pleasure. |
I just skimmed through thus thread and wow, some of you dimwits are ridiculous. OP can do whatever the fuck she wants. Not being home to give out candy to strangers is not rude. If your little snowflake really wants candy and there aren't enough people in the neighborhood at home, go to the damn store and get some. |
