This is how you take a hair bow out of a girls hair
1.sneak up on the girl with the hair bow.
2.say "I need that hair clip now!"to the girl.
3.grab the hair bow and pull the clip out and say " this is banned" to the girl.
4.run away.
6.the girl may scream at you but keep doing it to every girl you see wearing a hair bow.
7.go to school and take out the hair bow on every girl you see wearing a hair bow.
8.your done!

Life long NYer here. We moved to the area when my oldest DD was 4.5yo. Signed her up for ballet...and was slack jawed at the size of the MONOGRAMMED hair bows on the girls. And yes, their little brothers were toddling around in seer sucker Peter Pan collar play suits. It made me feel like I had landed on another planet.

I feel like all the pictures I saw of russian kids at school when I was growing up the girls always had huge white bows. I think it's a well known cultural thing (but maybe not in the present day)>

When I was a college age sorority girl, 20 years ago, we used to joke that the farther south a girl's chapter was the bigger her hair bow would be. Minnesota = no bows. Illinois = small bows. Missouri = bigger bows. Missippi = bows so big they could double as satellite dishes.

You wore bows in your hair in college in the 90s?

Dp. I wore ribbons and bows in my hair in college in late 80’s/early 90’s in NY. My children wore monogrammed and smocked clothing. I am a damn yankee.

My girls wore huge bows. Usually monogramed. We had bows to go with every outfit. And yes, we are very southern. Honestly, it makes me smile to know it bothered you boring women so much.
