IMO, what OP is saying is that had the races been reversed, this video would be playing on the news every night and all 3 of those teenagers would be facing a major trial.

I dislike people who take the "if this had been reversed, blah, blah, blah" would have happened approach. In actuality, we don't know what would have happened, because it didn't happen. Instead of being outraged about a scenario that does not exist, let's try sticking with what *did* happen.

Agreed. The only people keeping Sharpton and Jackson relevant are white people. The idea that either of these two hold any importance in my life is laughable.

Snitch is another way of saying tattle-teller. And while it's not deserved of a beating, it does not change the fact that the boy told on the teens.

The boys taught the snitch a valuable lesson. Crime is so rampant, that if the school wanted to eradicate drugs they could have done so long ago. Instead they let it happen and only occationally investigate if someone snitches on someone. It is irresponsible to expect to problem to go away by waiting for snitches, and most of the time the snitchers just place themselves in danger.

But the sad fact of the matter is this - Al Sharpton is like MLK each February. When I tried to bring in some unsung heroes, colleagues were 1) clueless and 2) questioning whether kids would be open to hearing about other activists.

So I blame the schools to some extent for keeping status quo.

Early on I taught in a very rural part of MD which housed a significant figure in the KKK. One of the KKK mothers threatened to have me killed b/c I was probably connected to mafia - lmfao! So yes, I've been in rural parts - not Deliverance, but rural enough.

I'm not saying only minorities pick on nerds - a term I haven't used in ages now, btw. But when you're the minority in a school, you get picked on. You can't seem to understand that, can you? not very bright IMO

And the worst case of bullying I've seen came from my own high school experiences - in a fairly uppity, all-girls private.

I'm just calling it like I see it - and I've seen quite a bit.

Kids are racist based on their experiences. Imagine going home each day to an empty apartment with hardly any food. Imagine having a baby at 14. Imagine being taught by mainly white teachers who drive decent cars, who dress well, and who have kids in schools you'd never ever attend - unless you were in a small pocket of section 8 housing surrounded by wealth.

But you don't get it, and part of the problem is that MOST people don't get it.

I am angry that those boys pummeled the kid. But I'm also angry that their parents raised them to be savages. And I'm almost 100% certain that had they been held to more rigorous expectations - inside and outside of school - they wouldn't be those savages today.

So it's not black and white; it's all very gray. And a president who doesn't address violent issues involving teens doesn't give a goddamn fuck about "the other" kids. He doesn't.

But if you walk into the majority of schools where I've taught you will see most of the AA and Hispanic kids on free and reduced meals. You can easily examine the data to see a connection btw. absences and race. You can do a grade analysis and see similar trends - our MINORITY white population excelling, our blacks and Hispanics with poor grades.

sorry if many of you are living in La La Land - But there is an underclass, and while it sickens me to see that white boy being brutally beaten by three black kids, I know that race plays a role.

I hear it all the time. White kids at my schools are indeed picked on unless they're in upper level classes (and programs like IB) where all kids (all races) are most likely coming from supportive homes with educated parents.

Educated kids would rarely beat the living shit out of another kid.

How, exactly? Because he made a statement of fact ("If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon") that was intended to connect with and demonstrate empathy for the family of a dead teenager?
