He was identified as a snitch in the vernacular of those providing the beatdown What happened to him was horrible I would hope I or my child would have the courage to turn in someone who was doing something wrong but I bet they would identify us as "snitches" and not turner-inners or witnesses or those good people who did the right thing Who are these folks who are so thick headed that they cannot understand the difference between explaining the dsyfunctional reason the boys administered the beating and NOT CONDONING IT Drug cartels murder people all the time if they even THINK someone may rat them out Whitey Bulger is on trial now and calling folks rats and snitches NO ONE SAYS THAT IS OK |
I dislike people who take the "if this had been reversed, blah, blah, blah" would have happened approach. In actuality, we don't know what would have happened, because it didn't happen. Instead of being outraged about a scenario that does not exist, let's try sticking with what *did* happen. |

Can people please stop bringing up AL Sharpton and Jesse Jackson??
Do you not know of any other black people, black pundits, black activists, journalists, radio show hosts, ANYBODY? I have lots of black people, been black all my life, have black parents, used to own a black cat AND NONE OF THESE PEOPLE EVEN THINK OF AL SHARPTON AND JESSE JACKSON as much as some of the idiots on these threads. These 2 gentleman do not show up everywhere black people are and everytime something happens to a black person Surpise -- they dont' even know everytime something happens to a black person Geez people cast a wider black net!!!! |
Agreed. The only people keeping Sharpton and Jackson relevant are white people. The idea that either of these two hold any importance in my life is laughable. |
Snitch is another way of saying tattle-teller. And while it's not deserved of a beating, it does not change the fact that the boy told on the teens. The US is made up of MILLIONS and MILLIONS of people. Do you actually think blacks don't get beat up by white people? Like ever? Do you not realize that many schoolyard fights don't make it to YouTube? Do you realize that just because it's not on YouTube doesn't mean it doesn't happen? |
| The boys taught the snitch a valuable lesson. Crime is so rampant, that if the school wanted to eradicate drugs they could have done so long ago. Instead they let it happen and only occationally investigate if someone snitches on someone. It is irresponsible to expect to problem to go away by waiting for snitches, and most of the time the snitchers just place themselves in danger. |
|
you do realize that many in the IC and government would love to act like the black boys if they could get a hold of snowden right?
Bradley manning snitched and look what happened to him. either support all snitchers or don't. can't pick and choose. |

We get it.
But the sad fact of the matter is this - Al Sharpton is like MLK each February. When I tried to bring in some unsung heroes, colleagues were 1) clueless and 2) questioning whether kids would be open to hearing about other activists.
So I blame the schools to some extent for keeping status quo.

Early on I taught in a very rural part of MD which housed a significant figure in the KKK. One of the KKK mothers threatened to have me killed b/c I was probably connected to mafia - lmfao! So yes, I've been in rural parts - not Deliverance, but rural enough.
Don't speak for me. I've taught the extremes. I'm not saying only minorities pick on nerds - a term I haven't used in ages now, btw. But when you're the minority in a school, you get picked on. You can't seem to understand that, can you? not very bright IMO And the worst case of bullying I've seen came from my own high school experiences - in a fairly uppity, all-girls private. I'm just calling it like I see it - and I've seen quite a bit. Kids are racist based on their experiences. Imagine going home each day to an empty apartment with hardly any food. Imagine having a baby at 14. Imagine being taught by mainly white teachers who drive decent cars, who dress well, and who have kids in schools you'd never ever attend - unless you were in a small pocket of section 8 housing surrounded by wealth. I'd hate whites, too. But you don't get it, and part of the problem is that MOST people don't get it. I am angry that those boys pummeled the kid. But I'm also angry that their parents raised them to be savages. And I'm almost 100% certain that had they been held to more rigorous expectations - inside and outside of school - they wouldn't be those savages today. So it's not black and white; it's all very gray. And a president who doesn't address violent issues involving teens doesn't give a goddamn fuck about "the other" kids. He doesn't. So don't preach to me, honey bun. I've seen more than you can EVER imagine!
Wrong. So totally, unbelievably wrong. Beat downs happen every day in America and it happens to all races. You just don't get a YouTube video to show it. Also, your "observations" on education and race is faulty. Unless, of course, you've taught in rural and urban populations. I'm guessing no though, right? And smart kids are bullied in schools across America. Stop trying to make it seem like only minorities pick on nerds, because it's simply not true. And Obama is not going to address school bus beat downs. Stop being petty and ridiculous. |
This wasn't fighting. This was one kid having the shit beaten out of him by three other boys. HUGE difference. |
No, he's not. He feels if you are black, you get a pass in school re: bad behavior: http://dailycaller.com/2012/07/27/obama-backs-race-based-school-discipline-policies/ |
Please, he contributed to the divisiveness. He didn't just comment. |
This is the stupidity of the FNC-cultivated bubble. Rather than using their pulpit to tell the news, they use it to talk about the news. How often does FNC (you know, the most watched cable news channel) and other members of the conservative media industrial complex (4 of the top 9 radio shows) bitch about how the media isn't covering something... ignoring that they are the media and they are opting to cover the coverage instead of actually cover the story? It is self-fulfilling, woe-is-me, self-victimization. "Wahhh... no one listens to us... it's bias... it's a conspiracy." No... no one listens to you because every time you are given a forum, you fill it with whining instead of actual substance. |
How, exactly? Because he made a statement of fact ("If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon") that was intended to connect with and demonstrate empathy for the family of a dead teenager? Where ever you came down on Zimmerman's actions, surely we can agree that the family deserved our sympathy, yes? Or was even offering that divisive, part of the "culture war"? |
But there is no evidence of that. And the video IS playing on the news. How the hell do you think everyone here knows about it? CNN, supposedly the liberal media bastion, has covered it. What more do you want? Just because not everyone is constructing the same narrative you seek doesn't mean they're doing it wrong. I could just as easily say that if the races had been reversed, no one would even know it happened. If if's and but's were candy and nuts... |
