Girls, please stop. The adults on this thread are not talking about JMU or GMU.

Actually JMU is up there with most Big Ten state schools for selectivity, certainly many on the list.

Not sure about GMU. I heard it has a good law school - don't know about its undergrad.

UNC Charlotte - really moving up and getting selective, but still has great financial aid, architecture and engineering. They also have the Nascar engineering complex which is so cool! And, the campus is absolutely beautiful, and in a beautiful part of the area, unlike some of the other public schools.

JMU is what it is, lots of people around here love it. But please find me a single list of "Big Ten" (whatever that means) state schools that lists JMU (unless you mean top ten in Virginia, then, yeah, I'll give you that). The only thing in may be top ten in is "Regional Universities." There are a few topics on DCUM that one or more posters always work their answer into (even when it is irrelevant to the discussion). One such answer is "JMU."

DD is intrigued regarding USC. What can you say about it?

it's in a ghetto. Housing is gonna be an issue.

Yeah, I'm in and out of USC all the time. Why would you want to spend so much money for the University of Spoiled Children? Party school. HOrrible neighborhood. Joke used to be that everyone standing in line to register for classes at USC would compare notes on when they had been rejected by UCLA.

The poster asked about South Carolina- great honors program, capstone, historic horse shoe....not Southern California.

USC is generous with aid, gorgeous, and not too far. Warm, affordable, good sports, greek, not too greek.

Super fit for my kid.

DD's June SAT scores make University of South Carolina acceptance "likely." It's #1 public college on her list for fall 2014. If anyone else has South Carolina insight, please share.

Apparently you have no idea what the Big Ten is. Let me enlighten you.

The Big Ten includes a number of State Schools. The newest members are Maryland and Rutgers. Long time members include Purdue, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Iowa and others.

And yes, the poster is correct. James Madison is as selective as many of the schools just mentioned, despite your vitriolic nonsense.

+ 1. The PP has a vendetta against Va Tech and JMU. Expect some pointless blather to ensue.

Neither of these schools are particularly selective, but then nether are most Big Ten schools like Iowa or Indiana.

How would you compare University of South Carolina to Clemson?

Do the research yourself: www.usnews.com

Personally George Mason is more prestigious than either.

I wasn't asking about a magazine ranking. Just wondering what they are like as schools, the towns are like, the students. Have never visited either.

OMG, you are using the Big Ten Conference as a measuring stick for how selective a college is and you're mentioning JMU in the same sentence as the Big Ten Conference colleges. I certainly know what the Big Ten Conference colleges are and again ask you to cite a single source that would claim JMU in their rank. Hilarious.

Our kids have looked at both. The biggest difference between the two is that USC is close to Columbia (and a fairly major airport) and Clemson is much more isolated. Both colleges seem to be gaining popularity for kids in the Northern Virginia area. Everything we hear about these 2 colleges has been positive.

Now you're lying. Nice.
