Curious what public colleges you've toured recently or where your kids are interested in looking/attending? |
My kids are 4 & 7, so I have no direct answer. But I work in higher education and I can tell you there are some great public colleges out there.
Portland State U Keene State U IUPUI UW-Madison Pretty much any COPLAC school (Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges) www.coplac.org (you didn't mention what state you're in...) |
WVU: great engineering, forestry, and forensics programs. |
William & Mary
UVA Michigan DC likely applying to these 3. We are not VA residents so the VA schools are out of state. DC ruled out UNC and UVM. We ruled out CU-Boulder. |
OP here. I should have mentioned we're in Va but we/kids probably don't want to go where they could be accepted in state. |
This is 20:40 - I could give lots more suggestions but it's hard without any kind of criteria. Large/small? Urban-big city; urban-small city; rural? East coast or anywhere? |
Clemson. |
Ohio State
U of Miami in OH U of Texas Berkeley UNC UVA Wm + Mary U of Cincy (top architecture program and top music program) UCLA UC system of CA (sev'l of the schools such as UC -San Diego) |
Interesting, I never knew that Clemson was public. And it's a good deal for out of state students. |
South Carolina. They give awesome merit aid. |
Clemson and UNC Chapel Hill.

Here's DD's current criteria: biggish (10,000+), football (pref D1), campus feel but close to a city (so GTown yes but no GW), B/B+ student, some Greek life, warmish climate. |
DD is intrigued regarding USC. What can you say about it? |
UW Madison! |
Too cold. |
