Can someone explain how to read the graphic for wait list slots? Why all the spaces and then the names of the schools? Does it suggest anything about how many people have said they might give up a slot? TIA

All the blank spaces in the waitlist response zone are from survey respondents who left that question blank. Just ignore the blank spaces. If anyone identified a slot they are planning to turn down, it's listed there. So as of this writing, here are the accept slots that will be turned down, which suggests these schools might go to their waitlists:

Bullis
WES k girl Potomac/K/Boy
Beauvoir/K/Boy
Wis
St Patricks / PK / Boy
Norwood / K / Boy
K/Girl Norwood, Concord Hill, Sidwell
Bullis
Rochambeau / 3rd maternelle / Boy

Whats the etiquette on sending responses to schools that accepted our child? Can we put the school on our wait list? Seems fair dont you think?
Anonymous
The etiquette is that you notify them as soon as you know you won't be attending there. Phone call, e-mail, letter, it doesn't matter. No, you can't put them on your wait list. While I get how this would seem fair, it's not how it works. If the school doesn't receive a deposit from you by their due date, you'll lose the spot any way, but it's nice to let them know sooner so that they can offer a spot to someone on their wait list.

We have decided on the first choice (one of the "Big 3" schools) for DC and already send out decline letters to all other schools that accepted DC. To return the enrollment contract and deposit to our first choice school, should we sent by regular or registered mail? Do we need to call the admissions office to make sure they received the contract?

We personally know 3 girls on Sidwell's wait list for 9th grade.

Bullis is closer as we live in Bethesda but it seems that its reputation academically not that great ????, Potomac has transportation- better reputation then bullis and WIS seems to be best academically . We are torn ...what is rumors what is not.
