Happened to us in regards to St Pats. Accepted PK @ GDS (1st choice) - WL at St. Pats. Heard St Pats was aware of our other application. Wonder if admissions folks trade a little info....

GDS and St. Pat's are very different schools. Did it ever occur to you that it could also be that they did not think that St. Pat's was the best fit for your child and offers were made to the children for whom St. Pat's made the most sense.

What's with your tone? "Did it ever occur to you..."

Didnt you forget to mention you were waitlisted for Janney and Anacostia Elementary?

To me that says the WL list schools knew the child would be accepted at the more competitive schools and didn't think they'd actually take the spot. St. Pats in particular is known for doing this.

Good grief. There is no way one school "knows" that a child will be accepted at another school. My guess is you presented a certain "attitude" at the schools and they chose to accept those families where they new that their school wasn't a fall back option. Can't blame them.

Actually, I know the admissions directors speak to one another so the case where a family says to the AD, "this is our first choice"....they know who is sincere. Heard this directly from an AD.

Rejected for 6th at Field today

Accepted for K at St. Stephens & St. Agnes

Accepted K Norwood
Waitlisted K Beauvoir
Waitlisted K St. Pats
Rejected Sidwell

Am hoping a spot opens up at Beauvoir, and we would go there. Ideas what our chances are? Norwood is a great school, so we would be happy there, but our first choice is Beauvoir for our son.

Accepted at NCS for 7th grade. Did not apply to any other schools.

The ADs absolutely talk to each other about specific candidates, and they admit it. Add to it the fact that no one wants to accept a kid that isn't coming, and this dynamic is very real.

I'm turning down a K spot at Beauvior.

Does anyone know how quickly you hear about the waitlist, Beauvoir in particular? It becomes a bit of a juggling game because contracts and deposits are due at other schools. Thanks for any info!

Does anyone know if the Sidwell wait list for 9th grade is long or short ?

To the poster who was accepted at Norwood anad on a wait at Beauvior

My daughter has gone to Norwood for the 3rd year in a row. She is now in 2nd grade. She was just accepted at Hollton-Arms for 3rd grade. Norwood is a wonderful school and I would go with it. My daughter has received an excellent K and 1st grade education at Norwood. I do not believe she could have had the same nurturing that she needed in another school. The K teachers and the 1st grade teachers were beyond my expectations. She gained the confidence to score excellent on admissions tests to Holton. I know some of you are saying then why are you leaving Norwood? Well, I want her to be settled in the same environment for the rest of her time in school. Also, she is ready for a big challenge. Some kids thrive k-8 at Norwood, in fact most do, but she is ready for a change. Again the K and 1st teachers are wonderful beyond words.

I do not think applying to so many schools is a good thing. We have always only applied for one and always we get in. The ad knows whether you are interested in the school truly. It is obvious. They also I believe do not want trouble makers in the parent pool. Do you blame them?? We never re read the mission statement or tried to prep for the interview, or treid to prep our daughter. We went in , went with the flow, were honest, and ourselves, and she got accepted. I think prepping is obvious. Yes we wanted her to get in Holton but what is meant to be is meant to be. She was calm, and was herself. This is my advice for applicants.
