| I'm not big on conspiracy theories either, but try starting a thread on how private school admissions directors make their admissions decisions. Then check out the range of answers before you decide that no admissions directors ever visit DCUM. |
Look, I don't disagree that probably sometimes school personnel, whether teachers, administrators, Admissions Director, etc, both read and post on DCUM. They live in the internet age too, and I'm sure sometimes do the equivalent of googling their own name but on an institutional level -- googling their own school. What is irritating, however, is that when a thread arises with intense criticism of a school, there are those who dismiss every post with a contrary, positive view as being a product of "school admin." It's a way of trying to cut off any kind of reasoned debate . . . for example, whether college matriculations of a given school that are less stellar than in the past are a sign of falling standards at the independent school or a major change in college admissions in general. My point of view in this is as a parent who is fairly well educated about the independent schools, having kids at some, college friends who teach at others, and many friends with kids at still other schools and/or who are on the boards of some of these schools. I also tend to be fairly sympathetic to the challenges of the schools/educators. I have posted on threads about more than one school, feeling like I have enough knowledge to contribute (and let's be honest, sometimes the bar isn't all that high for some of the discussions). And I'm sure some people have thought I'm an admin -- fair enough, it's an anonymous board! But for people to tag every positive post on a school as fake/propaganda/boosting is just illogical. |

I don't usually buy into conspiracy theories either, but I had to come back here and post this.
Check out the post from 20:04 on the "99 fisc" thread. She says she's "in education" and knows a lot about "applications and making up a class" and then she goes on to share some inside knowledge. I know, I know, have the aliens landed at Roswell? |
| There is a reason that NCS tries to pretend that it and STA are *really* one and the same. Matriculation at STA is as good as ever -- maybe better. Just saying. |
Need proof. |
NCS never tries to pretend STA is one in the same. All they say is that they share a campus and some classes and activities. In fact, the girls like to assert their "differentness" from STA. You obviously have no direct connection to these schools. |
Oh, good heavens. Now we have someone saying STA's college admissions record is better than ever -- based on this year's. One year's. |
| Isn't that fun -- NCS is riding on St. Alban's, while Holton is distinguishing itself as a unique institution... |
| NCS is certainly not riding on STA. Anyone truly affiliated with the school will tell you that. They do not try to be STA, yes they have co ed classes some years but they are not trying to claim to be STA. We have a DD at the school. This years early admissions stats were not stellar, they were good but not amazing. STAs were amazing this year, amazing. BUT I can only think of one of the boys admitted to an ivy that was not big legacy, big money or recruited athlete. |
| Close Insider and Affiliate: So it is really only big legacy, money or recruited athletes that drive the amazing reputation, stellar stats, and halo of STA? Doesn't NCS have big money, legacy and athletes? |
| NCS and STA are not in competition. |
| 9:07 - yes, but perhaps less in this class? or this class is not as amazing in years past? who knows but nit picking one years early acceptances really is not a great way to judge a school. And thinking about students at NCS who did get in early there is at least one recruited athlete. I am not sure about legacy or URM. I have a son who graduated STA in recent year which is another reason I know this particular class at STA well - it is a really strong class, I did not mean to make my earlier comments sound like this year was not a great class. This years earlies at STA were just unbelievable. |
Agreed. But it is sort of funny to read these new posts touting StA, since I recall several posts over the last two years with people essentially saying NCS was stronger than StA. People have short memories. |
I'll be very interested to see the final matriculation info on the entire class when StA posts it over the summer. |
How did Holton get into this? |
