have you ever had a memorable celebrity encounter? or been hit on by someone famous?

Waited on Roger Ebert while working at a diner about 17 years ago. It was in the town we both grew up in. He wasn't particularly nice and was not a great tipper.

Made out with the singer from Slapshot (the band) if anyone knows who they are when I was in college, nearly 20 years ago. Probably doesn't count but it was my groupie experience and so much fun!

God I miss being young.

I am not sure if this counts as a celebrity but I went to high school with Timothy McVeigh (or as I have always known him Timmy McVeigh.) His sister sat in front of me in freshman Biology. My parents know his father pretty well and say he is actually a very nice, sweet person who was heartbroken by what happened.

lol. I know. I am political celebrity nerd, what can I say...skip it. I have hollywood celeb stories but my dh is on here and he might recognize my descriptions. I never told him about the treasury guy.

I've seen lots of celebs in various places, but my most 'serious' encounter is a little embarrassing. I was in San Diego for work and rode up in the hotel elevator with an old dude who kept trying to tell me jokes and get me to laugh. I thought it was just an elderly man looking for attention from a younger woman. He was so annoying, I totally gave him the cold shoulder. I get back to my room and flipped on the local news. There was my elevator guy - famous old comedian Red Skelton - being interviewed about his show. I felt stupid.

Played blackjack in Vegas at a table with Tory Spelling for hours. She was quiet but super nice and responsive when people asked her for her autograph (I never did). She was datingNick Savalas at the time (Telly's son)...he was at another table.

the blackeyed peas were in line in front of us in amsterdam airport many years ago. this was the pre-fergie, pre-OMG-we're-the-biggest-band-in-the-known-universe peas, and they were shlepping their bags to check in at 6 AM like the rest of us.

waited on the managers and road crew for wutang clan. they gave me passes for their show the next night.

shook hands with isaac hayes at his club in memphis.

met harvey keitel in an airport. nice guy.

rode an elevator with karl denson from karl denson's tiny universe (a band).

sat behind jason varitek (red sox catcher) at a red sox game. he was injured and watching from the stands.

this one is not mine, but it is memorable -- a girlfriend of mine from high school made out with michael hutchence from INXS when they were in town.

Anonymous wrote:Ha. Easy for you to say from your comfy, enlightened perch in 2011. This was 30 years ago. I was fresh out of college, and was the youngest staffer in the office and the only woman who wasn't a secretary. Whether you like it or not, this kind of thing happened all the time to young women back then, and if you went up against the word of a powerful man, you were out of a job. The protections we have today didn't exist then. Times changed, thankfully. You learn, grow, and get stronger along the way. After the Hill, I went on to become the first female director in a company in a then-male-dominated industry. I worked hard for gender equality in the industry, and did all I could to ensure that the women coming up after me didn't have to deal with the same kind of sexism and harassment issues we had to deal with as young women. Ridiculous, indeed.

Thank you.

And in a way, it's nice that people find it unbelievable. Shows the kind of change that's really happened.

Yes, thank you! We ride on the shoulders of many.

Walked by Ethan Hawke in Chelsea. Thought he was a drifter at first, as he was wearing a grey hoodie and worn out jeans.

Yup, he lives in Chelsea, bought his house from very good friends of my family.

Walking to Metro on K Street around 7 pm on a summer evening, two men were walking just ahead of me, and the shorter man had such distinctive hair that I realized it was Marty Stuart, the country musician. I had a nice chat with them -- he had a concert in the area the following evening.

Many years ago, at Hard Rock Cafe in London, my friend and I were seated next to a group that included Steve Van Zandt ("Little Steven") in the Springsteen band (this was way before the Sopranos). Didn't seem like he was being recognized but I knew him immediately. Got his autograph on a napkin. Still have it (somewhere in the house!).

When I treated myself to a spa week at Canyon Ranch in Arizona about 10 years ago (pre kids), actress Alfre Woodard was also there and she was fun to chat with in the whirlpool and yoga classes. Also ran into Mike Myers (SNL) and his then-wife.

Finally, my Mom was hit on by Pierre Salinger, when she was visiting town and I brought her with me to a reception at the French Embassy -- this is probably 15 years ago.

I served ice cream to Suger Ray Leonard and his little boy MANY years ago. Also a friend in NY made out with Timothy Hutton years ago and another friend made out with Robert Downy Jr. also years ago (kind-of jealous abt RDJ make-out)

shook hands with the dalai lama (didn't make out with him, though)

rode in a limo with Kathleen Kennedy Townsend (didn't make out with her either, and she told me I'd never amount to much, in, I think, an attempt to be encouraging)

Met Henry Kissinger (but didn't make out with him either. Damn, why haven't I made out with a celebrity?)
