A living cliche! |
BBT was just so cruel all the time. And it was mocking nerd culture not embracing it, despite its claims. |
The Good Place has literal demons! |
Here, I'm make your head explode. JK I don't like Ted Lasso, Breaking Bad AND Lost. And I've just started reading the responses.

I didn’t think that was that unrealistic. They were assistant professors at someplace like cal tech and lived in what was basically student level apartment housing and obviously did not spend money on travel or clothes or going out to bars etc. and had no kids. That all leaves a lot of money for ordering Thai food. Also Raj’s family was super wealthy Indian. There was a whole story line about how they cut him off and he needed to learn to budget. |
I watch a fair amount of European TV and there’s a lot of awful stuff. Spain reliably cranks out a bunch of schlocky soap opera type stuff (cable girls, the one about the prostitutes, the one about the women in prison, the one about the killer in Barcelona, the one about the church in Barcelona, etc., etc.). 90% of British shows are — some woman or kid got killed or kidnapped and some crotchety detective with a dry sense of humor needs to find the criminal. |
I’m that poster. I’m nerd culture adjacent. Like, I have my list of favorite Star Trek characters and go in costume to Renn fest. And was friends in HS with all the guys who grew up to be the BBT type engineers and physicists. I thought it was teasing in a loving way, not mocking in a cruel way. They all had beautiful women fall in love with them, great jobs, good friends, and still got to be their nerdy selves going to Comicon so that’s like a perfect happy ending. Are you a nerd? Do you go to Comicon? Can you debate the merits of the various Star Trek captains? I sound like I’m a huge fan which I’m not but I think it’s a well done classic sitcom—not trying to be high art or anything. |

I thought the last season of hacks was awful, when the two leads were in a constant feud. It went on for too long and was just too damn cringey. Smart and Einbinder are generally good. The guy who plays the agent is a terrible actor.
I couldn’t get past two episodes of Schitt’s Creek, and White Lotus is contrived garbage. Whew!! That felt good!! |
They were not assistant professors in the first few seasons-they were researchers. But nonetheless how much do you think assistant professors make???? But yeah you are right-they probably still would have had an extra money given their lifestyle. |
I hated their feud on Hacks, but really enjoy the show overall. And I like Jimmy. But I’m with you on Schitt’s Creek and White Lotus. |
+100 Europe has just as many - perhaps more - trashy shows as we do. It's funny when people claim otherwise. |
| Downton Abbey. Too many characters and subplots and scene changes. |
| Agree with Downton Abbey. The plot lines were just silly. It could have been much better with fresh writing (as opposed to tired, predictable, totally telegraphed plots), given that it had a great cast. |
All of Downtown Abbey after the first season. They strung it out for as long as they could to make the money. |
I'm old enough to remember the original Upstairs, Downstairs with the grumpy cook Mrs Bridges, the butler Mr Hudson, the caring lady's maid Rose and the sassy one Sarah. Downton seemed to borrow heavily from that show. |
