Not Bullis and not SSSAS. 100 percent sure.

I'm guessing OP regrets posting on this topic because it's now very clear that they opened a can of worms that is completely unproductive, much like themselves. This post is dangerously close to what their daughter was parroting to my kid. If you didn't like the itinerary, which included a museum visit, a food experience that aligns with a capstone project, and a trip to a major national monument, don't send your kid. Homeschool them for those two days and and see how well you do.

I don't know what happened, but I think most would agree with you if they did!

I think my kids went to this school. When we applied and decided to go, the big trip was to New Mexico. New York was the temporary replacement because of Covid—- parents were leary of flying and they could charter a bus. And it stuck because it’s cheaper and easier. Anyway, it’s the newish Head of school— came just after Covid. She does not care about tradition or offering experiences on par with middle schools at k-12. She never tried to restore things that paused during Covid. She has slowly but surely dismantled and watered down every single event and tradition and so while I am sad for you, I am not surprised.

Actually, it sounds more like the Field school...

Wait the kids missed two days of school for this? The bogus itinerary suggested it was a weekend. Two days of school? For what is essentially a waste of time?

Two days of schools were missed.

If you are in the same school, do you know what might have happened? It’s not that tuition has gone down and the school needs to cut costs—quite the opposite.

The original poster should’ve just said the school was Maret and could’ve
Prevented a lot of this back and forth. The Broadway trip occurred the last two years with Hamilton being two years ago and the lion king last year. The trip also features food tours , a visit to Ellis island , the Statue of Liberty, and goes along with the history curriculum and a visit to the Tenement museum. The OP left out a lot and also did not highlight that teachers are not paid for these overnights. It should also be noted that the Broadway experience was organized by a popular teacher who Left Maret last year for a job out of state and that is likely why this trip did not happen this year. Had the parent truly been upset they would’ve reached out to leadership and organizers of the trip prior to the trip to air their concerns instead of getting on here to complain after the fact when nothing could be done.

Literally, every time someone tries to "take down" Maret, it is the most normal benign logistical changes 🤣 honestly Maret, I think you all did well here. Sure we all have one mom who is a bit much, but it took you all a long time to clock it as one of your own and I truly don't think what happen reflects poorly on Maret at all.

So apparently it is either Bullis or Maret, and involved visits to a museum and a national monument at a minimum or food tours, Ellis Island/Statue of Liberty and Tenement museum. Even without a Broadway show, both sound like reasonable AND educational 2-day trips to NYC. Bonus for a stop at Dave and Busters on the way home! I’m sure the kids had a blast with all of it.

As noted previously, OP was leaving out a lot.

Compared to last year, this trip left a lot to be desired. Why don’t you mention how long the kids actually stayed on Ellis Island? The idea was for them to learn about immigration, but of course, there was no time for that. It was mostly just D&B’s.

🙄even if they give a minute by minute breakdown, unless it was 8 hrs at D&B and a bathroom break at the other stops, I'm not sure anyone is going to change to be on your side... also you have the itinerary, you could have shared yourself...
