Same. In state, 4.38, lots of rigor. High test score though, but I don’t think UVA cares about test scores at all. I will report back.

Why on earth would you say that?

If you've listened to their presentations, they always say that rigor and grades across all four years is more important than the tests.

No, Dean J does not say that. She says rigor AND grades AND test scores AND ECs, etc are important. Otherwise how do you explain a 35ACT at the 75th percentile and a 34 at the median?

Yep. Listen to what they do, and not what they say.

If scores didn’t matter they would be test blind.

Correct. SCHEV doesn’t lie. They want to see a 35 ACT and/or a 1510 SAT. Dean J has to make test optional noises until UVA decides to return to testing, which the Board is considering for fall 2027.

Remember also that she’s said the same about grades. It’s all marketing. She wants your kid to apply. She knows you want to hear these statements and rely upon them.

Where do you get 1510? The median is 1470 per most recent CDS.

Because that's what their CDS says.

No it doesn’t. Nor does SCHEV

Hhmmm. You must be looking at a different CDS than me.

If the job is to make people apply, why do they talk about taking the best program in all subjects? Why publicize the crazy low acceptance rates? They scares a lot of people away.

I wouldn’t make any assumptions about what the newly constituted BoV will do re: test scores. It’s a new day.

The way to get a lower acceptance rate is to get more people to apply. Her job is to get more numbers!

Test optional is why that number is high. When schools go test required (outside of T10s/Ivies) the median and 75% drop a bit…because then you have to put in all the recruited athlete and students you wanted that met certain profiles but didn’t submit scores/scores too low.

That’s why you can’t trust score profiles fr test optional schools- like Vandy where 1/2 don’t even accept scores vs Georgetown where 100% have to submit them.

I’m sure this Dean J is an amazing person. Her “name” comes up constantly on here. So she’s a senior associate dean of admission at UVA. Isn’t it odd that a single person has such a sizable influence on admissions to UVA?

She’s the face. She’s selling the school. College admissions has become big business and there are a lot of people who lap this stuff up. At the end of the day, UVA is going to do what they want/admit who they want.

Does anyone know who the actual dean of undergrad admissions at UVA is? Thanks.

I’m surprised UVA let her keep such a high profile. So many admissions people moved on to milk their former titles and build a college consulting biz.
