They can’t be. They have actively villainized masculinity for the better part of two decades.
And if—as the lefts tells you all day long — “representation matters” then it might be a good idea of someone on the left would start realizing that demonizing masculine traits in men makes men who have those natural traits feel undervalued and marginalized by what is supposed to be their own party.

Try naming five examples of a masculine democrat male leader in n politics and you’ll see what I mean.

Young men feel abandoned by the left. It’s not that difficult to decipher.
But instead you’d rather demonize him or infantilize him by imagining that he’s gone crazy or is ignorant. He is neither. He just doesn’t buy into hating himself for having natural male traits like ambition, competitiveness, and physical strength. He also might like the idea that one should be rewarded for his own work output capitalist model of America that the left seems to abhor right now.

Likely not impressed by republican leaders. Trump and Vance are not masculine men, Pence is weird, and Obama and Walz definitely are masculine men and strong family men so this argument falls apart just at the recent presidential level.

There is a lot of marketing towards men from the right and kids want to be counter cultural to their parents. Plus as the previous poster said, they likely haven't struggled much. If they are a good person they at least know that many on the right in politics are not speaking in a positive way. You can have conservative values and still hate the political fighting, insults, and lies. There are conservatives that still hated Rush Limbaugh and his kind.

If you think the bolded, you have no idea what masculine means.

Let me ask you a question. Do you think Trump is masculine?

I’m the PP who wrote that and yes, I do. Or rather, I recognize that most voters do. It is unfortunate because I despise Trump, but he is objectively funny and codes masculine to most voters. He speaks roughly, doesn’t use the baffling language of the progressive left, and makes people laugh. That’s masculine, whether you want to admit it or not.

Uh, no, that is not masculine in my book.

Because you are a very liberal white woman. To most of the rest of the voting population, that is clearly masculine.

Let me put it this way. Let’s say there was a national poll on this question: Who is more masculine, Trump or Walz?

There is only one demographic that would pick Walz over Trump, and that is liberal white women. It is possible that black women would lean Walz but it would be tight. But no other demographic would come close.

Personally this drives me nuts but I can recognize reality.

Trump masculine I can't stop laughing. He's a narcissist cry baby. Masculine

Shrug. You are welcome to keep ceding political ground to the Republicans by refusing to face reality if you want. Me, I want to have a Democratic Party that has even a small chance of winning a national election in my lifetime again, and I know that won’t happen without being clear-eyed about the milquetoast candidates the Democrats keep putting forward.

You know I’m right. That’s why you are deflecting. In a national poll about who is more masculine, Trump would trounce Walz, except among very liberal whites women. And that’s a serious problem for Democrats.

Stop with the garbage....if "men" and you I suppose feel trump and his abusive and disgusting behavior towards other humans is masculine then we have a serious societal issue.

You keep avoiding the question. So let’s ask again. In a national poll across all demographic groups, who would win when the question is “Who is more masculine, Trump or Walz?”

You are avoiding answering because you know Trump would trounce Walz across the board, except for liberal white women. And yes, that is a problem. But your approach of avoidance doesn’t solve the problem. It does demonstrate why Democrats are so incompetent on the national stage, however.

You’re asking a nonsensical question and then answering it yourself, based on your own gut feeling and preference.

There is no real answer, because there are two different versions of masculinity that Americans subscribe to. There’s the fake WWE dominance and aggression version that MAGA likes, and then there’s the solid strength/protection/skill/reliability version that the rest of us see as masculinity.

If the poll asked Americans more specific questions, the answers would probably not be what you’re expecting:

If you had a flat, who would you trust to help you change it?

If your toilet was clogged, who would you trust more to fix it?

Who has funnier jokes? (Answer will vary depending on whether you prefer dad jokes or nasty misogynist punchdowns)

Who would you rather have as a husband? As a father? As a boss?

Who could physically defeat a MMA rival in hand to hand combat? (Trick question: neither). Followup question: how often do you need an MMA rival defeated in hand to hand combat?

Who would you choose to deliver a devastating insult to your enemies? (I’d pick Walz over Trump. Trump’s vocabulary and repertoire are limited and crude. Walz can call someone “weird” and make it stick.)

This is a long way of openly admitting that Trump, even deeply unpopular Trump now, would trounce Walz in a presidential election.

Also, since you don’t seem too grounded in election reality, an FYI: the “weird” thing from Walz in the last election was an abject failure for him. He made it stick, alright—to the Democrats.

NP. You're right, the use of "weird" fell flat. What he SHOULD have said is "batshit crazy," "f'ng nuts," or "evil incarnate" instead because those much better capture Trump and his administration.

Sure. But he didn’t. And the PP is delusionally insisting that Walz’s use of “weird” worked, which indicates a complete lack of being tethered to election reality.

The truth is that Walz doesn’t, and didn’t, have the firepower (or “masculinity,” to keep on the topic of the thread) to successfully call Trump and his minions out as “batshit crazy.” He is milquetoast and weak, like all the Democratic male candidates except maybe Mamdani and, if I squint hard, Newsom. And young male voters see that.

It's pretty sad if the new standard for male politicians going forward is to emulate anything whatsoever having to do with Trump or MAGA. Dem politicians are now supposed to go after their opponents the way Trump does--with swear words, playground nicknames, and cruel or sophomoric insults? You know who's weak? Donald F. Trump is who. For all his bully's bluster, shouting, and name-calling, he is a weaka** specimen of a man in every sense of the word.

Also, interesting that you have seized on the ability to insult people as the One True Marker Of Masculinity from the lost above. Would you trust Trump to rewire an outlet or find his way out of the woods?

I have yet to see one compelling argument that isn't about white men whining about no longer being handed everything when they want it (as often), or rooted in hatred/mistrust of women.

He’s not even your stereotypical trump voter or whatever. Good job in coastal city, just got engaged, owns a house, many friends. But he’s gone down this rabbit hole of right wing politics and it leaves me baffled

It's pretty simple this case:

https://www.dol.gov/newsroom/releases/eta/eta20211019

When you start digging into it you realize two things.

A) How widespread and embedded this practice of replacing American jobs. Numerous government agencies are involved. They're all looking the other way when Democrats are in power. They enable businesses to do hostile searches and make you jump through all kinds of hoops, when they never intend to hire you.

B) The Democrats prioritize this over every other agenda. The view it as a moral issue, discussion of such isn't even on the table.

Once a person realizes that, from there everything else in the platform just becomes empty signaling.

California biggest oil producer.
Epstein was a Democrat.
Segregation is an Urban problem.
Catholics are never going to vote for abortion.
Zuckerberg the billionaire is a Democrat.
etc.

The list goes on.

Exhibit A of swallowing the right-wing Kool Aid.

Because left-wing Kool Aid tastes like kombucha.

That’s because it’s not laced with all the poisonous lies and misinformation churned out by the right wing noise machine.

It stuck for awhile, as the polls showed in key swing states, until the DNC asked him to stop using it and the news cycle moved on to something else. It was a perfect insult because the right only feels more empowered if you call them vile or deplorable, but weird? They can’t stand that.

Trump’s insults are crude by comparison, and he lacks the vocabulary to really slice and dice people verbally.

You’re the delusional one here, and it clearly bothers you, or you wouldn’t keep getting mad at facts and using hyperbole.

What facts? The fact that demographic groups that the Democrats assumed were theirs for the taking migrated to Trump in the last election? The fact that Trump won the popular vote, despite people like you assuring us all that Walz calling people weird was working very well? Were you also insisting that Harris was going to win Iowa easily, which was a flatly absurd position for anyone with any grounding in reality to take?

The Democrats will never win the presidency again so long as people like you dominate the party apparatus. You would rather lose an entire generation of voters than face reality.

You’re making a lot of assumptions about me. Soooo many assumptions. But please, continue being delusional. (And don’t check the results of the special elections this year, particularly the poll results showing huge swings among 18-29 men towards Spanberger, Mamdani and Sherrill. Wouldn’t want to intrude on your bubble).

This. I’m so tired of the demands that Democrats cater to the basest instincts of young men. How about young men pick candidates based on who has better ideas and experience instead of who has better insults?

You mean Walz comes out jumping on stage like a clown with open hands, but can make what stick?

What's up with your perception. Are you completely broken?

Would you like to try that again, but in English?

Okay, run with that and keep losing presidential elections for eternity.

Oh noes, you feel the world is against you so you want to vote for the grifter billionaires who don't give a shit about you? See how that helps you and your family, kids, etc.

I’m a Harris-voting, lifelong Democrat, you moron. I am just not sealed inside the deep blue bubble like you are. I want to win the presidential election again some day, and I see nobody on the horizon who even comes close to being a realistic candidate.

For context, I accurately called Trump’s wins months before the election each time, as well as Biden’s. I’ve correctly predicted each presidential election since I started paying attention (Obama). I tried to warn people here that Trump was going to win and got a lot of posts back about how wrong I was. 🤷‍♀️

Also don’t come back about stupid special elections or whatever. They are irrelevant to national voting patterns. The Democrats will win the midterms but at this rate will get trounced again in the presidential election unless a dark horse candidate emerges. And a lot of that has to do with the denialism on display in this thread.

+1 The next step is to take up arms against the enemies who are placing obstacles in the way of employment and higher education.

Are you proposing to shoot up college admissions offices? That’s not going to look good on your application.

Maybe you could try not being violent, entitled, and paranoid. Employers love that.
I am not proposing anything but you have identified one of the apparatchik targets. I am telling you, there is only so much that men will tolerate before, as it says in Ecclesiastes, there is a time to kill.

You’re talking about targets and killing and taking up arms, using the Bible to justify it. Of course you’re proposing something. That something appears to be a mass shooting of colleges and employers who have dared to reject you.

Prove me wrong.

The Democrats aren’t fun anymore. The right is still allowed to have fun.

It’s really that simple.

No one wants to be associated with the masked crazies telling everyone to check their privilege or respect their pronouns.
