Exactly. I follow comedy and have followed stories of comedians and have never heard this and if it were true which it isn’t, Eddie could have kept going by taking jokes from others, like Robin Williams did. I love Robin but it’s well known that he stole jokes, sometimes |
Charlie Barnett https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Barnett_(comedian) |
|
Barnett was born in Bluefield, West Virginia. He first made a name for himself in the late 1970s and early 1980s, performing several shows of raunchy comedy a day at outdoor parks in New York City, most notably in Washington Square Park. In September 1980, Barnett auditioned for Saturday Night Live. Producer Jean Doumanian was ready to hire him; however, Barnett was self-conscious about his poor reading skills and he skipped a follow-up reading. His spot in the cast was ultimately given to Eddie Murphy.[2][3]
Barnett was reportedly envious and resentful of Murphy for several years, although in 1983 he told Jet Magazine: "Now that I'm making it, I watch Saturday Night Live every Saturday."[4] Barnett contracted HIV as a result of heroin abuse and died from AIDS on March 16, 1996 |
| It was known Eddie stole lot of his jokes and from Charlie’s shows. This was before social media so he could get away with it |
Social media catches up to scandals and it would have come up once social media was here. |
Where eactly was this "known?" Dave Chappelle met this guy, became friends with him, and said he was one of the funniest people he knew as a street comedian. He confided in Dave Chappelle when he was dying of Aids. Do you really think that if Eddie had stolen his material, that Dave Chappelle, of all people, would keep this a secret? Dave Chappelle has shown that he gives no Fukks and lives a free life unafraid of being "cancelled". |
Charlie wasn’t mad or bitter about it eventually. He couldn’t read well enough for the show so there’s nothing he could’ve done. Dave Chappelle wouldn’t expose Eddie because he looked up to Eddie as a kid just like he wouldn’t expose Kevin hart for having writers or robin Williams for taking jokes. Comics don’t go after comics. It’s a rule. |
Nonsense |
| So they talked about Mel B? He did scary spice dirty |
Probably every comedian uses other's jokes to develop their routine. |
It is a tragedy how so many of our schools, particularly majority minority and urban schools, are willing to pass through entire grades of kids year after year who are completely illiterate. It is so rampant, that one can only assume it is being done purposefully, ro maintain a permanent underclass. Imagine how different this man's life would have been if he could only read. |
The idea that “comics don’t go after comics” just isn’t true. They do it all the time when it’s real. Carlos Mencia was openly accused by multiple comedians for years; on podcasts, in interviews, and even on stage. Joe Rogan, George Lopez, Bill Cosby, and Ari Shaffir all made accusations. Amy Schumer was accused of joke theft by other comedians and writers, with side-by-side clips circulating. She denied it. Comedians don’t protect thieves; they protect their own craft. Are you familiar with Dave, and do you watch his comedy shows? Dave Chappelle isn’t some passive fanboy who protects legends at all costs. This is Dave Chappelle, the same guy who openly criticizes the industry, his peers, other celebrities he knows personally, and even his own fans. If Eddie had stolen material from someone Dave personally knew and respected, that would’ve come up somewhere in his storytelling. It never has. |
| ^^ Me again; you mentioned Kevin Hart. Dave has actually criticized Kevin Hart. He's made comments about his brand-friendly comedy and about celebrity apology culture (clearly referencing Hart’s Oscar controversy and career strategy). He doesn’t name him every time, but the target is obvious and widely understood. |
Are you the same “Eddie wanted Denzel’s career” poster? Or is this just fan fiction? You have pieced together quite a narrative that completely disregards the facts. A simple IMDB search would show you that your comedic savant had several subsequent roles in film and tv, including starring in DC Cab (one of the most terrible movies to come out of the 80s) yet somehow he never made it big? |
Wow, that movie brings back so many memories for me! Mr. T, Gary Busey, Bill Maher, and Irene Cara were also in that movie. |
