Where eactly was this "known?" Dave Chappelle met this guy, became friends with him, and said he was one of the funniest people he knew as a street comedian. He confided in Dave Chappelle when he was dying of Aids. Do you really think that if Eddie had stolen his material, that Dave Chappelle, of all people, would keep this a secret? Dave Chappelle has shown that he gives no Fukks and lives a free life unafraid of being "cancelled".

Charlie wasn’t mad or bitter about it eventually.
He couldn’t read well enough for the show so there’s nothing he could’ve done. Dave Chappelle wouldn’t expose Eddie because he looked up to Eddie as a kid just like he wouldn’t expose Kevin hart for having writers or robin Williams for taking jokes. Comics don’t go after comics. It’s a rule.
The idea that “comics don’t go after comics” just isn’t true. They do it all the time when it’s real. Carlos Mencia was openly accused by multiple comedians for years; on podcasts, in interviews, and even on stage. Joe Rogan, George Lopez, Bill Cosby, and Ari Shaffir all made accusations. Amy Schumer was accused of joke theft by other comedians and writers, with side-by-side clips circulating. She denied it. Comedians don’t protect thieves; they protect their own craft.

Are you familiar with Dave, and do you watch his comedy shows? Dave Chappelle isn’t some passive fanboy who protects legends at all costs. This is Dave Chappelle, the same guy who openly criticizes the industry, his peers, other celebrities he knows personally, and even his own fans. If Eddie had stolen material from someone Dave personally knew and respected, that would’ve come up somewhere in his storytelling. It never has.

Dave isn’t the type to go after other comedians. He also hired Eddie’s late younger brother Charlie Murphy for the Chappelle show as one of his own writers (as well as a writer for Eddie) so how can he blast Eddie for that? The man in reference was a burnout with poor reading skills who knew he couldn’t perform on SNL even though he was scouted by SNL because of his local fame. Sketch comedy/television requires reading and no profanity and is a whole different vibe than club comedy which is less structured.

Eddie’s best acting role was in Dreamgirls. I don’t know how Jennifer Hudson won the Oscar for that over Eddie.

Because the academy hates him…because of decades of being a pompous jerk with scandals in the tabloids?

Snl originally wanted him not Eddie but he had trouble reading the lines and had a drug issue. Eddie was booked and used all of that comedians jokes (most of them)

There’s actually no evidence of that story at all. No records of a Harlem street comedian being passed over for SNL, no proof Eddie used someone else’s jokes, nothing.

Eddie has always been open about being influenced by Richard Pryor and Red Foxx, but influence isn’t stealing, and if he’d lifted most of someone’s material, it would’ve been exposed decades ago. Comedy doesn’t keep secrets like that.
Exactly. I follow comedy and have followed stories of comedians and have never heard this and if it were true which it isn’t, Eddie could have kept going by taking jokes from others, like Robin Williams did. I love Robin but it’s well known that he stole jokes, sometimes

Probably every comedian uses other's jokes to develop their routine.
Um, no. This isn’t true

I was just about to say this. Carlos Mencia got crushed by the comedians for stealing jokes. He was huge at one time and he completely got blackballed by the community of comedians

Dave Chappelle absolutely calls out people when something is real; that’s literally his lane and he has never avoided uncomfortable truths in his storytelling. Dave openly criticized Cosby’s behavior and hypocrisy before the legal outcome, despite Cosby being a legend and someone Dave once admired. That wasn’t safe or popular at the time. I could give more examples.
