Being pro personal freedom is a Democratic position, I guess. Ladies and gentlemen, behold the Conservative party of living your life their (very rigidly defined) way or the highway!

Nobody is taking away your personal freedom. He is making a statement - a recommendation - with the thought that if you dress nicer you are more apt to behave more nicely while flying.

I am all for that. And, I think it is ridiculous for people to wear PJs on a plane, unless you are a child under the age of 3.

I am not a fan of pajamas as clothing, to be honest. But it isn't for Sean Duffy to say and he sounds like a moron saying it. And frankly I'd rather fly for the rest of my life with pajama clad people than live another minute with this Constitution-hating administration.

Airlines give out pajamas to business class passengers on long haul flights.

What’s classy if you’re rich and trashy if you’re poor?

Game on.

Jeans and a polo are OK, no matter what your financial status. Pajamas are not.

I swear, the left is a perfect picture of mental illness.

You should go to the airport and survey all the pajama-wearers about (i) where they attend high school and (ii) who they voted for in 2024.

Why should I do that? Just take some pride in your appearance FFS.

You should do this because Fox News seems to have convinced you that “the left” is all at the airport in their pjs. If you do a little digging, you will discover that this is not the case.

I bet more people would be willing to dress up if the boarding process didn’t resemble a mass prison intake procedure.

You can dress comfortably but well though. It's funny people are feeling so defensive over it. I like the idea of people dressing well, behaving well, being patient and respectful. We all benefit from that. And yes, I think airlines should respect passengers much more as well and politicians should have decorum they don't have.

Makes me think that some of the people posting here are guilty of poor conduct.

You know who is guilty of poor conduct...Trump who literally posted a video of him sh-tting while on an airplane? If Sean Duffy doesn't care about people having blow out diarrhea from a diaper on a plane, then he cannot dictate I wear gabardine trousers.

I would love for him to add that people should also shower and brush their hair. Would love to see the protest from the left.

Is this allowed?

I don’t have my own personal jet paid for by US taxpayers like Trump does, like Kash Patel does and like ICE Barbie does.

So, no.

Civility is fine; telling people, the majority of whom fly basic economy, what to wear is not.

What happened to personal freedom? How does wearing PJs on the plane impact air safety?

I've never worn PJs on a plane but if others want, in the words of Melania's jacket... "I really don't care.. do you"?

MAGA: Stop telling us what pronouns to use for trans people.

Also MAGA: Dress up when you get on a plane.

Who are you to tell people what they should do and what not to wear when flying? Mind your own damn business.

Apparently Sean Duffy has flown nothing other than first and business class for decades.

I don't want the other people on economy class touching any part of my body. Most of us will wear sweats or pajamas or athleisure on the plane and then change in the airport bathroom if we have to.

I date him to wear his nice clothes and sit in economy. Or change into pajamas in the economy bathroom, and then change back. Hahahaha.

When the airlines don't cram people into small seats on crammed airplanes and treat customers with respect, then maybe people will treat the flying experience with more respect. As it is, fying is not pleasurable, and being uncomfortablly dressed in uncomotable seats makes it worse. The bigger issue, of course, is that the federal government should have no role in how people dress.

This. It's up to the airline who sold you the ticket. If an airline wants to establish itself as "classy" and require its passengers to dress a certain way then more power to them.

Meanwhile, while everyone's focused on this dumb story, this is an actual POLICY change that the DOT has implemented. And, as is usual with the Trump administration, it is not in your best interest.

DOT walks back on promise of automatic reimbursements for flight delays and cancellations
The Department of Transportation has announced it will roll back widely lauded Biden-era plans to reimburse travelers for flight delays and cancellations automatically. Under the previous rule, which was finalized during the last few months of President Biden’s administration, carriers would have had to compensate passengers for reasons deemed under the airlines’ control such as mechanical issues or staffing shortages, AFAR reported.

The DOT said that the reversal would allow carriers to “compete on the services and compensation that they provide to passengers.” The reimbursement would’ve ranged from $200 to $300 for domestic delays of at least three hours, and up to $775 for longer disruptions, PoliticoPro reported. In addition, the carriers would’ve had to foot the bill for meals and hotel rooms. However, now this proposed safeguard has been nixed with the rollback slated to go into effect Monday. In a document filed in the Federal Register, the DOT argued that the policy would result in “unnecessary regulatory burdens.”

This is a pattern that keeps repeating:

1. The right whips up an invented culture-war issue that affects ten people and that almost nobody worries about (transgender athletes, litterboxes in classrooms, PJs on airplanes).

2. The rest of us observe that this is an unserious/hypocritical/performative/unrealistic thing to be clutching pearls over, and can we please get back to discussing kitchen table issues.

3. The right springs their rhetorical trap: “See? The left is defending this! They want us all to wear PJs on airplanes and dress like furries! They’re mentally ill!”

People need to learn to distinguish between “this is a dumb thing to get worked up over” and “I am advocating that we all do the thing you are getting worked up over”.
