This is a pattern that keeps repeating:

1. The right whips up an invented culture-war issue that affects ten people and that almost nobody worries about (transgender athletes, litterboxes in classrooms, PJs on airplanes).

2. The rest of us observe that this is an unserious/hypocritical/performative/unrealistic thing to be clutching pearls over, and can we please get back to discussing kitchen table issues.

3. The right springs their rhetorical trap: “See?  The left is defending this! They want us all to wear PJs on airplanes and dress like furries! They’re mentally ill!”

People need to learn to distinguish between “this is a dumb thing to get worked up over” and “I am advocating that we all do the thing you are getting worked up over”.
