Yep.

He doesn't talk about how big the seats were then does he?

Seriously. If he wants passengers to go back to 1960s standards of dress, then he needs to talk to the airlines about going back to the 1960s standards for seat size/leg room and service. Pretty telling he's lecturing us while not saying a thing about the airlines.

You wouldn't fly then. 1960s prices were high. So high that normal people could not afford to fly.

Wrong:

"According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, prices for airline fares are 981.56% higher in 2025 versus 1963 (a $981.56 difference in value).

Between 1963 and 2025: Airfare experienced an average inflation rate of 3.91% per year. This rate of change indicates significant inflation. In other words, airfare costing $100 in the year 1963 would cost $1,081.56 in 2025 for an equivalent purchase. Compared to the overall inflation rate of 3.86% during this same period, inflation for airfare was higher."

air travel was a regulated industry then, so you didn't have the price gouging that you have now

Better prices, much larger seats, planes that weren't packed like sardines. The 1980s still had some vestiges of this when I traveled in college.

It's a whole lot easier to dress up when you don't have to strip for TSA and then wedge yourself into a seat.

To show what we think of this administration everyone should wear plaid pajama pants on flights.

This administration would love that.

Beyond the cost, people just dressed up more in the past. Women wore dresses and skirts with stockings back then. You can barely find pantyhose these days. No way am I going to start dressing like that for crappy Spirit air. Airlines can barely contain their disdain for their customers these days.

Once again, Republicans are the party of "mah freedom" but do not actually believe in freedom. If there is any party for which I worry most about loss of my individual rights when they are in power, it's Republicans.

How do they propose to enforce these new dress codes?

I mean, this seems like the least of it.

There’s zero correlation between dressing up and behaving respectfully. Case in point: guy in suit and red tie who addresses journalists as “piggy”.

Exactly this. I would bet $100 that if Trump had to fly in steerage with the rest of us he would be the one losing his shit and punching a flight attendant. Wearing his too long tie while he did it.

TSA of course. If you don't pass their clothing approval, the you don't get through. And god help you if you are wearing Green Bay garb going through the line at O'Hare.

I know it's communist and all but I might consider being MAGA if they bring uniform requirements to flying. Show up, go in the lounge to put on your mandatory red/white/blue jumpsuit, and enjoy the flight.

or this would be nice to wear. Just to, you know, keep the focus where it should be and not on distractions:
