Usha - no wedding ring

IMHO, not wearing a ring means nothing, maybe she sent it for cleaning or took it off because of a million other reasons.

As their former neighbor, not in the slightest.

Yes! People make it seem like Usha is a poor unfortunate soul who is being manipulated by JD. If anything, Usha has the upper hand, and it would be interesting to see what her true intentions are. I don't trust her any more than I trust JD. She is definitely ruthless and cutthroat.

I don’t think she’s a victim but how does she have the upper hand? Jd could be with Erika Kirk next year and what would Usha have to show for it?

A book and the accompanying publicity tour about being an aggrieved wife left for a man-eating skank, which you idiots would buy into hook, line, and sinker.

Nobody will give a rat’s behind about Usha once JD dumps her.

Then she'll go and get a much hotter man like Mary Vote did.

Well Mary Vought is pretty, so. That path is going to be difficult for Plain Jane Vance to follow.

Her new husband flirts with every young woman at the club. You lose a man the same way you got him. Mary is shrill, washed-up, and without class. Cheaters flock together.

Her eyelash extensions are horrific. I get it, you're a 40something divorcee and want to look good but let's not gild the lily so to speak.

This would be well and good except for the fact that JD just referred to her as agnostic/not practicing and she does wear a wedding ring. I think this is a nothing burger and she just forgot to put it on that morning but she does wear one usually:

There are MANY other examples of her without a ring if you check Getty. Like many of us, she’s inconsistent.

I think they are in a committed marriage, which is a totally different animal.

They are a professional unit at this time.

They’re absolutely not going to be together for a lifetime or anything.

It’s weird. No idea what hit Usha over the head to marry this hillbilly.

I went to YLS. It is a small place without a lot of dating options plus a feeling that you’re sort of in a close community together. I’m pretty sure they were in the same “small group” which is a group of about 10 students that have one first semester small group class together plus all their first semester classes together so naturally bond and form study groups together. Marriages from small group are not uncommon. I think maybe Jed or Amy was their small group professor and it’s not uncommon for small group professors to host get together and such. My small group professor was a nice guy but definitely not the kind to be bonding with students. There was one marriage out of my small group of 10. Anyway you spend three years with the same group of like 200 people and it’s very insular and everyone is doing the same things and having lots of intellectual conversations, so I think it makes for some pairings that you might not see in a normal world.

Nearly all attractive charismatic students at my T15 matriculated de facto engaged. Usha and JD were 25 year old 1Ls. Weird terminally single strivers like Usha and JD immediately orbit creepy over-involved professors and will do anything for them, including enter arranged relationships.

The addition of the Amy Chua and her creepy husband, Jed, to the Usha and JD Vance pairing is a weird example of how sexually toxic even the highest, most educated echelons of America are. Depressing that even highly educated men are encouraged to value their female partners for their utility value in terms of what the woman can do to increase the man’s professional value and highly educated women are encouraged to “sell” themselves to prospectively successful men instead of investing in their own professional success.

Enter Bill Clinton another from YLS

YLS is super toxic but not sexually so. There’s really not that much sex happening. Jed is gross, yes, but there are really not people trading on sexuality at YLS and my understanding from professors was that Bill (when he attended a million years ago) was barely there. Hillary was the studious one. There’s a lot of distinction at YlS and a lot of people with stunted social skills but the people insisting that Jed/amy had them in an arranged marriage for political gain are just way off mark. It is a world in which many people are lonely, many people have not had the oppprtinity to have a lot of other relationships, and most people are actually genuinely attracted to people’s intellect. Jed and Amy play match maker with the judiciary and other power brokers but they arent pairing off students as some power play. Some people will naturally pair off in that environment. I am convinced their relationship was genuine.
Whether they still are in the same headspace years later, after three kids, two major moves, two major job changes, a religious conversion, and a major change in personality/outlokk, I don’t know. A lot of women in her situation would feel very disoriented in those circumstances, but she doesn’t seem to. Maybe it’s clear she’ll get her judicial appointment — God knows they’ve pushed through people who were less qualified.

They are both actors. This is all fake.

Doesn’t Jed have a bunch of sexual misconduct allegations?

Usha is a modern and practical woman and odds of her wearing ethnic clothing or jewelry other than to a family function are really low. I guess y'all were also expecting Mamdani's wife to wear a saree and bindi for inauguration. This is a global generation.

Mamdani’a wife is Syrian.

No, she's AMERICAN

I wouldn't be surprised if they have a nanny or housekeeper that leaves at 5 or 6 during the week. In that case, she might wash the dinner dishes on weeknights, as well as all the dishes on the weekends. I don't really know anyone who has 24/7 help, despite having money to pay for it.

Mary Vought’s mouth smiles but she has dead eyes. She looks like a shell of a human.

Usha will always be considered an interloper in the body MAGA, so whether or not she tries to mold herself into the ideal MAGA woman, and chooses to religiously abide by the sartorial conventions of the Second Lady, she's never going to belong, because of her skin color. MAGA's first belief system is a racist one. She could be a charismatic Second Lady to the moderate center, but I don't think she has that personality. JD Vance is not the MAGA heir and never was. He was pushed into the VP spot by Silicon Valley billionaires in exchange for millions of dollars in support of the Trump Presidential campaign, in an attempt to steer the ship away from MAGA extremes and into good business. This has so far failed in the tariff arena, but it has achieved some success in the rollback of financial regulations, environmental restrictions, tax supervision, etc.

Interestingly, Trump has always had an awkward VP. Pence was the key to the religious right. He wasn't MAGA either.

Your comment about MAGA and racism is just your imagination or wish. Not true.

I am trying to remember, did Doug Emhoff get this kind of scrutiny? I feel like he didn't. And he had some legit skeletons in his closet (although he does seem to have treated Kamala Harris better than his first wife).

Thank you for adding your more-informed opinion. I agree she’s not power hungry, she’s disappointed in JD, and is sending a message by not wearing ring at public event. She’s still Second Lady, whether contemplating divorce or not.
