Weirdly creepily stalkerish |
If you care enough to complain on an anonymous board about kids playing down a year, you probably care enough to figure out who they are, what their height is, and how much they impact games for their teams. Or, do you not have a kid in MLS Next and just care in theory but have no idea how biobanding plays out in a real game? That is much more likely. |
looking at the opponents roster is not stalkerish or weird. And . . . wouldn't be an issue if teams didn't abuse the rule. I'd caution though, this could also show a player who regularly plays up an age group. Delco, for instance, has a larger 2010 (U16) who shows as a U17 and U16 on Taka. |
Delco 2010 uses 3 2009s. All 3 meet the criteria and play U16. |
Delco uses 3 biobands on every team except for the oldest. They have 'doctors' who help get the biobands approved and they start/play pretty much every minute. Oh, and they are larger than almost every player out there. They are proud of it and it is part of their 'winning formula'. I didn't really care, mainly because most of the teams around them ignored this and just fielded teams properly but that has now changed in the last 2 years (and a lot this year). Everyone is now trying to emulate the 'Delco Way' and it won't be long before every team in the area is doing it. I have no problem with the theory of it, and if the pro academies here and abroad want to do it, fine. But let's not pretend it isn't being abused majorly. Hopefully the P2P MLSN clubs switch to SY and that shakes up the current nonsense that is going on. |
Not familiar with the older Delco teams but their youngest (u13 and u14) MLS Next age groups only use 2 biobands each. The kids designated there are definitely appropriate late developers. u15 has 3, 2 of which are appropriate as well. Honestly biobanding probably shouldn't continue past u15. Kids are through puberty then and height differences are just genetic. |
"The kids designated there are definitely appropriate late developers." By that you mean, they are starters, play almost every minute and are as big or bigger than anyone else on the field? Then yes, they definitely are 'late developers'. |
Starters, play most min, smaller than 50% of the younger team. Definitely not the biggest kids on the field. |
Thought that was Bethesda who did that? |
Hey, third-grader, I've got this kindergarten team I'd like you play on! |
P2P MLSN should ban biobanding. They are not "star players" waiting to grow taller. They are average B team players if put in their own age group. The rule is only good for greedy clubs and desperate parents. |
You used the word 'kid' Remember that's who you're talking about, not the men's team |
|
Anyone know whom to approach about biobanding? Do the clubs handle it, regular pediatrician, or some sort of sports doctor- or combination?
Are there limits to how many players on a team can be biobanders? |
MLSN rules are currently max 3 late developers. |
