So you have no actual response? |
I don't give AF if some lady in England works or not. Why would any American care? |
PP's response seems to be that the British public should keep paying Kate to do nothing except take vacations and renovate her fifth "forever home" at Forest Lodge. Easy enough for an American Disney-princess worshipper to say. My British relatives (London, Birmingham, Aberdeen, and Glasgow), who pay actual taxes for this, disagree, but then American MAGA were never consistent about expectations from their public figures. |
Why draw the line at public figures? Should all able bodied people work or not? |
Imma need to pull your liberal cards friends. She's a failed queen bee and real liberals stan our real princess - Megan. |
So they can vote her out. Oh wait... |
If Kate and William don't want to do any actual work, then they can become like other European "bicycle monarchies." Why do the Waleses, who do less than half the engagements of King Charles, who is still undergoing treatment for cancer, need so many homes and so many vacations? A bicycle monarchy doesn't mean the Waleses move to council estates, because most European monarchies are still very, very, privileged, but it does mean they're less of a drain on the taxpayer. Except those other European monarchs actually do work they bicycle to, but that's a quibble.
William's "small r" royalty is BS, because he wants that £23m/year in duchy income and the Sovereign Grant, but doing less work. Like having staff tweet for VJ Day a few weeks ago, which was a disgrace. A bicycle monarchy seems commensurate with how Kate and William view their own roles. |
Yeah. I actually find Meghan's lifestyle show almost unwatchable. But knowing what I do about the palace-orchestrated hate campaign against Meghan, which William and Kate helped further, and which was part of a coordinated campaign to big up Kate and William, and also seeing how that hate campaign resonated with the racists and the MAGAs--I'm totally on Meghan and Harry's side. |
Isn't what they are doing right now "work?" I presume they would not be hanging with Trump of their own accord. |
Yes, the Foreign Office asks Charles, Camilla, and the Waleses to show up for the two days of the Trumps' visit. And last week Kate and William made a few surprise engagements, perhaps because, some speculate, Harry was in town doing charismatic things with ill children--again, you decide. Before that, nobody had seen Kate or William since Wimbledon in June, and a soccer game William attended with Charlotte. Through August, Kate did nine whole engagements this year, but since January she's also managed to take vacations in Switzerland, France, Mustique, and on a megayacht in the Aegean. Again, you decide about Kate and William's work ethic. Although it's worth mentioning that even their lapdogs at the Daily Mail, like Amanda Platell and Liz Jones, are rubbishing Kate and William for doing almost nothing this year. Yes, I spend a lot of time in Britain and have family there. |
Isn't that the point of this thread? There's a lot of speculation, in Britain and in the US, that Kate and William are actually pretty conservative and like Trump. They certainly seemed happy to talk to him during his visit, and certainly that's part of their job description, but also you can't fake the pictures that came out of the multiple engagements. |
