Trump Planning “7 Nights of Action” in DC

Just need to put an end to catch and release. Then have the chain gangs clean up the city.

If there were marauding gangs of white teens and tweens car jacking, looting, shooting, robbing DC residents, how long do you think it would take before the city/parents/citizens stopped that? a month? do you think the city/parents/citizens would allow that to go on for 3 years? Not a chance and thank god for that. But it is black teens and tweens that we are dealing with which has meant thus far, let's ignore it and hopefully it will just go away on its own. Classic soft bigotry of NO expectations.

This is the fact. People pitching camping tents on city sidewalks is not the answer. We have to do something here.

If they can't afford to pay rent then where should they live.

I'm a christian so I feel they should be housed, and kept safe by society. But we don't live in a Christian nation.

Many are drug addled and not of sound mind.

The sound minded ones should move to better locations and restart life. Easier said than done, but do it anyway.

Philadelphia did what Trump is planning. No one called Philadelphia city leaders “MAGAs.”

+1. Not sure what the problem is with this. These people will be much better off wherever they are housed.

+2.

I’ve lived here 25 years and have never had even a package stolen and don’t know a single person who is a victim of crime.

But neither my anecdote or yours is relevant nor your made up extrapolation…that’s like me saying there must be zero crime because I have never been a victim.

What neighborhood are you in? Would be helpful context. I’m in LaFayette ES area and I’d say almost 50% of neighborhood have had a package stolen or car window smashed. Most do not call police because they know it would be pointless and could potentially hurt property values.

CC DC also in Lafayette ES.

It’s pretty stupid to think calling the police will hurt property values, nor do I know a single person who thinks like that.

You don’t think people check crime rates and school reviews before making the most important financial decision of their lives, really?

Not really…everyone knows this is a safe neighborhood. Nobody cares if there are police reports about packages being stolen.

Any high profile crime would be heard about.

It’s silly if you think your Upper NW home value is going to suffer due to Amazon packages getting swiped.

I mean…go check the sexual offense registry and you will find a decent number living close to you…it’s what it is if you live in any city.

It’s silly to think a young family will move 1000 yards north for better schools or safety? We know dozens of them. And, so do you. Upper NW home values are artificially propped up by hipsters desperate to flee worse parts of the city and by traffic.

We city Democrats need to stop reflexively denying uncomfortable facts (e.g. “the border is secure”, “mostly peaceful protests”, etc) if we hope to win purple states again. We cannot continue to cede public safety as an issue. There is nothing wrong with demanding safe cities.

If you have insurance, you don't need to file a police report.

What does that have to do with reporting porch pirates to the police…which has zero impact on home values.

I actually don’t know dozens of people moving 3/4 of a mile north…what they are moving from Forest Hills or Cleveland Park to CC DC because it’s so dangerous in those parts? Maybe read what you write before hitting submit.

If anyone is moving due to crime it’s not because they are following the detsiled reports and noticing an uptick in petty crime…it’s because of major incidents that are widely known.

Also, how are upper NW home values artificially propped up by anything? People move here for a SFH with some space vs living in denser parts of the city and because it’s actually cheaper per square foot to buy in upper NW vs many of the trendier parts of DC.

Not to mention places like Kalorama, Mass Heights, Georgetown et al are way more expensive yet have worse public schools (which most of those residents could care less since their kids are private) and higher crime rates in their capture areas.

No problem with facts…but anecdata on an anonymous forum aren’t facts, right?

Try harder to fight the reflex. You can do this.

What’s the reflex…responding to bullshit anecdotes?
