Thinking back as a mom, was Kate Gosselin really that bad?

And how would she have paid for her kids? Jon never had a real job. I think she got caught up in the money and probably felt like that was her best option to stay home with her kids. Can you imagine trying to be a nurse and take care of 8 young kids?

Jon had a job. He worked in IT. They met at a company picnic.

Jon did not have a job that would provide for a family of ten. He was a giant man child. He went on to be a DJ and acted like a teenager.

I don't completely disagree, but he was only a couple years out of high school when he met Kate, then they dated and got married. So, yes, for a short time after they split he did seem to live the single 20s life he never had. Since then he seems to have settled down.

He was a parent at that point. Do you have a lot of sympathy for other dads who decide they just want to have fun and relive the single life despite having 8 kids? I’m sure those guys are all over dating apps but I don’t think mature women find them appealing. Do you think Kate deserved a chance to live the single life she never had either? Jon is not a victim here.

Read about what happened. He was forced out as he didn't want to be on the show and she did. He has always worked but she wanted a better lifestyle. She's the one who didn't work. At some point he has the right to move on.

What kind of dad would just “move on” from his kids? He’s no hero. He’s been underemployed his entire adult life. Isn’t Kate back to nursing? Not exactly unemployed but she figured it out. Not sure why the quitter parent is getting the hero edit.

I was raising multiples during the same time period (although half of what she had), and I don’t think most people have any idea of how hard it was and what a toll it takes on your body physically as well as emotionally. She had six premature babies and some of their issues may stem from prematurity and developmental delays. She seemed to handle the bulk of child rearing and making the income. She also probably got a really bad edit because it is reality TV after all. She did lots of things I disagree with but some of you saying she was controlling have never taken toddler multiples out in public and it shows.

💯
I thought that back then, and even more so now, as a parent myself.
She was not a stellar mom. But she did her best, married to a man child and carrying the mental and physical load. Jon’s weaponized incompetence was on display before we knew that term.

I went back and watched a few episodes a year or two ago. She was worse than I remembered. Truly a mommy dearest.

Um, Catholic are vehemently against this type of fertility treatment, even liberal pelosi style catholics.

Conservative and traditional Catholics are against nearly all fertility treatments, for many reasons too vast to discuss on this entertainment thread

To attributes crazy octomom style ivf treatments to prolife Catholics and other conservative Christian religion show a complete ignorance of Christianity and pro life faith traditions.

The one thing that is certain is that Catholics are definitely not implanting a litter of unborn children into the womb.

I think you misread this post. I think it was more about # of children and not fertility treatments that lead to large families. There are certain religions that have been known to just have larger families, for whatever reason. Very conservative Catholics don’t approve of birth control, so they tend to have more children. Then there are the quiver full types.

The show’s cast really lacked diversity.

Don’t you think 6 two year olds is different than a 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 9 yr old? Large families don’t usually have kids all the same age.

What should she have done? She was stressed out. Maybe her husband could have stepped up?

+1. Being stressed is not an excuse for verbal abuse. She was a control freak who maintained control through verbal abuse and shaming. Everyone knows someone like this. The modus operandi is to make life hell for everyone who does not do what you want. They learn that there is hell to pay so they then just go along with every demand you make. This is Kate in every episode. This is why most of her kids hate her.

Most of her kids? Seems like 6 are fine with her.

Kate never supported herself. She sold her kids to the tv network and even stole their money. He’s always worked. He couldn’t fight her when the network paid her attorneys fees.

They are scared of her. She was horrible to Collin and put him in an institution and never visited. Just give him to dad. Who does that?

He did. He was kicked out as he did not want to do the show or have the kids on tv

He was kicked out? How do you kick a grown man out of his home? Weird that all these things just happen to Jon like getting kicked out, losing custody, and his wife falling pregnant with so many kids. What a dud. Is his lack of a career her fault too?

The kids who say Collin was violent and terrorized them. They were scared of him. If she’s so bad why didn’t they all run off to live with dad?

That was what I was trying to say - didn’t realize I had to get that specific
