Tariffs or no, the bolded has been an issue for me for a long time. Being environmentally conscious means nothing if we are dumping our tech devices so frequently. We buy the best products we can afford at the time and hold on to them for a long time. My car is old (20+ years), but has 120k miles, good mileage for a gas powered vehicle (32 mpg on highway, 27mpg locally), and still passes emissions and safety inspections with flying colors. Debatable whether recycling it and other cars every five years is better than holding onto this vehicle. Similar on electronic devices.

Not happy about tariffs but if it gets people to be more environmentally responsible, they will have some positive effect.

Driving 20 year old car is not good for the environment.

What is the energy and resources cost to create a new one, which includes shipping materials all over the world, including back and forth multiple times across oceans or North American borders compared to repairing an existing vehicle?

The financial cost to replace an engine at 200k for 7k dollars is considerably cheaper than a new average vehicle cost of close to 50k.

If we're serious about climate change you need to think about this.

But putting a new car every four to five years into the dump is??? Even recycling the parts costs energy (hauling the parts, melting them down, etc.).

Some European nations take that into account via taxes for environmental purposes. You have to think beyond just emissions. In some senses a simpler vehicle may be a better environmental design.

Can you imagine if just one day in his life, Trump woke up and tried to make things better for Americans instead of looking for brand new ways to make everything so much worse.

Trump 47 is literally a gift from the likes of you. You gave us this and set us up for what's happening. If only you cared about Dem constituents in the last 4 years, but you ran away with the madness of your stupid culture revolution, identity politics, money printing and fluffing up of asset prices and enriching billionaires, and pissing off more than half of the population with asinine Covid measures that had nothing to do with science. Dems successfully executed massive wealth transfer started by Trump 45. Shall I say, congrats?

If they cared about the working poor as a whole rather than specific identity groups they would have trounced trump. They ignored their working class base. Now the parties have once again switched demographics as they do every other generation.

Android is the most popular os globally. People who buy iphone to show that they are wealthy are like those who buy Range Rovers -- an expensive car that is unreliable but a status symbol.

He got illegal crossing down to like 1% of what it was under Biden, and no new democrat legislation was forced down our throats. He just reinstated the policies previously in place and a the number of illegal crossings dropped like a stone.

He has managed to isolate China and most other countries around the world know it. A game was played simply to go thru the motions of isolating them.

DOGE is identifying fraud, waste and abuse of the tax payer everyday. Billions or maybe even a trillion/year will be saved long term. Running things with common sense.

Unlike the last administration, whose sole action to every problem was to drop money from the sky on every problem , or implement "social justice" to anger the population through crazy policies, this administration governs well.

Unlike democrats, they don't just campaign well. They actually run things well. This is what the democrat party was before the elites took over.

America chose well. Have a splendid day!

I mean this kindly, I wanna have whatever it is you are smoking. It's clearly one helluva drug. I wish I could be this much checked out from reality. Goals!

What were you smoking when you told me the ONLY way to fix strangers flooding the southern border was through new legislation and that until then, the influx could not be fixed?

Trump found a brand new way by tanking the economy.

You lied to us. Just like you did about Biden's cognitive health.

No new legislation on immigration was needed. As we kept telling you, just enforce the immigration law in place.

But no, you kept it going to shove your ideology of multiculturalism down our throats with unchecked immigration and all the intended consequences thereof.

You democrats just can't be trusted anymore. You've proven yourselves to be untrustworthy elitist globalists.

Oh, but you trust Trump with the economy and your 401k portfolio? How's that working out for you? Trump's proven himself to be erratic (we actually knew that from last time) and untrustworthy (also knew that before he even ran. This was well known in NYC).

I trust ME with my 401K. I don't blame everything in my life on Trump. Got it?

I prosper IN SPITE OF Washington DC. They do damn little for me.

You are at the whim of Trump's chaotic admin, just like we all are. Your 401k balance dropped just like the rest of ours.

It's more like there are two different class systems. Urban class system and rural class system. In rural areas you can be poor and have a pretty good standard of living, your kids can still go to good schools for example. Rural schools have advanced math tracking. I was poor growing up, I had plenty of academic opportunities. I really doubt that is the case for kids in many schools around here, it's way more economically segregated.

No it is not. Do some research maga.

Lol. You are a silly goose. The research has been done many times over. It’s not that complicated.

Total environmental impact of me operating my 20 year old car for the next 5 years is just a fraction of the total environmental impact of building a new car and operating it for the next 5 years even if my tailpipe emissions are higher.

The only people who doubt this are people who emotionally WANT to believe that they can save the environment via virtue signaling luxury electric car purchases.

But it should be obvious that spending $50,000 to have a 4000 pound automobile manufactured out of steel, aluminum, plastic, lithium, and rare earth minerals so you can move your 150 pound body around town using electricity generated at the nearby fossil fuel burning power plant isn’t exactly an efficient or noble pollution reduction move! Sheesh!

We’re want so badly to be virtuous that we told ourself we could save the world by….shopping for new cars! Lol.

Yep. For $50,000, one could have 50,000 trees planted. Probably better than having a 1700 pound battery manufactured and then consuming enough electricity to move that 1700 pound battery around with you on all your errands!

Yeah, but they would just have to turn around and cut down the trees to install their community solar project.

Bingo. But they didn't just piss off working classes. They also pissed off a bunch of liberals over the last 4 years

Some of you are just dying for this to happen, aren’t you.

Apparently it’s your people who want it happen, since they’re the ones responsible. Enjoy!

Of course they are. It’s political for them. The worse things get, the better it will be for Dems, so Dems are all-in on destroying things. It’s spring 2020 all over again.

Wait you think “Dems” are destroying things right now? Please explain to the class how that’s happening.

Can you check your notes and tell us who was in charge in spring 2020? TIA!
