GOP spending bill seeking immediate $1 billion in cuts to DC budget

I think part of the problem is the sense on the Hill that DC wastes an incredible amount of money on frivolous or ineffective programs. Bike lanes, violence interuptors, street murals, luxury apartments for the homeless, etc. Need to fix this going forward…

Bike lanes are infrastructure that provide safety, cleaner air, and healthier populace. they aren't frivolous.
street Murals are about quality of life and providing "support" for artists and an artist community, which is beneficial to the quality of life in a community.
What are violence interuptors?
Where are these luxury apartments for the homeless?

Congress approves DC's (balanced and timely!) budget every year. They can take up any issues they have when the next DC budget is submitted for approval to them.

To cut it mid-year, with spending already allocated, is insane and punitive.

You must be new around here.

This is part of the problem with the current structure. the GOP has zero stake in this and can completely degrade the quality of life of DC residents without a care or repercussion.

This impacts DC Fire, Metropolitan Police, the money that goes to providing a rich transit system for tourists, clean streets, etc.

We wouldn’t need more money for public safety and clean streets if the Council would just stop enacting crazy progressive crime policies.

We wouldn't need to cut our existing budget if the Maggots in charge didn't push this unnecessary cut which saves $0 federal dollars.

To those MAGAs who voted for this (and I know you lurk here), you've been quiet about this. Guess Trumpy isn't saving DC after all.

But DC doesn’t. These things were intended to make the city safer.

Also the $600 Million for Leonsis. But the Mayor will ensure the money comes out of schools and policing first.

Cut police funds and let's stop using our police force for motorcades.

Now this is brilliant.

Can't blame this on the GOP anymore, Senate Democrats are voting for this CR as well.
