What does this even mean, in practical terms?

I mean, I'm not PP but ICE would have to break down my door to come drag children out because I'm locking it and not opening it. And I'm putting my body between them and the kids.

I don't understand why we are even having to discuss this. Are ICE agents really going to be willing to do this? Is this really what they signed up for? Do they really make enough money for this to feel acceptable/worth it?

The Proud Boys and Oathkeepers have asked to be deputized to carry out this. Any money they get would be icing on the cake. They will do for free to wreck violence and cause terror.

All MCPS schools were recently issued a 2 page summary document called Immigration Response Protocol for “what to do if ICE comes to your school.” Clearly the superintendent doesn’t think it’s a joke.

And that document will have to updated since the rules are different after yesterday.

Nobody is coming into classrooms to arrest kids. In the “worst” (according to some) case, some kids will be taken to the office after class/school where officials will be waiting to take them to their parents who have presumably been detained for being in the country illegally and are getting prepared to be deported back to their country. Stop getting everyone hysterical thinking about things that won’t happen. It’s starting to sound like the “border agents are whipping the migrants!” hysteria which was also just a complete lie.

I can’t see them actually taking any kids because they have no capacity to care for kids.

I thought they included schools to prevent adults from entering schools and refusing to leave to avoid ICE agents. Do you like the idea of a rando running into your child’s school to shelter and then not leaving?

Take your complaints to the local and national news. NBC4 covered this story not 5 minutes ago. While you’re lodging your complaint do them a favor and lay your “facts” on them, since you clearly trump their professional researchers and journalists.

They took kids before. Separated them from their parents. And didn’t care for them. Remember the kids in cages? That wasn’t that long ago.

Where I live, randos can’t enter a school that way as even parents must have an appointment and be buzzed in.

Completely absurd. Laughably so.

I live in a city very near the Mexican border, and there are definitely undocumented kids at our public schools. And even more US citizen kids with undocumented parents. Absolutely zero people here are worried about this, or even talking about this.

This thread is absolutely crazy.

Just because you're not disturbed about raids on your community in the middle of the school day (which you might ask your kids if THEY think it's traumatizing) doesn't mean that everyone shares your opinion.

There will be no “raids”. You people are crazy.

This. Due to FERPA, Immigration officers are required to have a U.S. district court issued warrant signed by a judge in order to have access to any records at all, with specific individual/s names in said warrant. Plus they cannot legally leave the front office of the school without warrant. There will be no mass round up raids. They are not going to roaming the school halls rounding up any kid that is brown

Give older kids an ACLU card that tells them what they don’t have to do if questioned by LEOs.

Even if your kid is White or White-presenting, they will be emotionally impacted.

My school is suspending rollout of our cellphone lock up system in response to the anticipated ICE raids in our region. Parents won’t send their kids if they have no way to reach them if a raid starts.

So ya’ll are stopping a program rollout that benefits that entire school community because of fear of something that isn’t guaranteed to happened?

It doesn’t benefit the whole community if it puts some kids at risk.

I make my kids wear seatbelts and look both ways when cross the street because of something that isn’t guaranteed to happen. It’s a bare minimum for decent parenting.

Reducing cell phone use in schools and this distraction and disruption at school does benefit the entire school community. That in and of itself is not putting kids at risk of ICE raids or missing school. Parent decisions are doing the later. Why would we stop rollout of a program intended to benefit EDUCATION because we are worried some might not send their kids to school, the place of education. Education is the primary purpose of the school and school district.

Because even non-immigrant parents worry about the physical and emotional safety of their children in the event of something as chaotic as armed men dragging classmates out of their school building. If you wouldn’t want to reach your child or your child wouldn’t want to reach you, your family is dysfunctional.

If this is your concern, you are delusional. Do you really think this is going to happen? Did Rachel Maddow tell you that?

You sound insane, OP. Schools will not let law enforcement past the office.

I see you and I thank you for being who you are.

My kids are white citizens but go to school with 98% Hispanic kids. I don’t have any way to know their status but can reasonably assume some of them are undocumented or have parents who are undocumented. The thought of this happening to them AT SCHOOL makes me physically sick. ICE does not belong in elementary schools. I can’t believe this even has to be said. It’s bad for all the kids, not just the undocumented ones (or citizens with undocumented parents).

have you ever thought about the impact of having families involved in criminal activities in our schools? What does that do to the school environment where our kids are supposed to learn and grow? It’s concerning to think that our children might be surrounded by influences that aren’t conducive to a healthy and safe learning atmosphere. when resources get stretched by illegal activities, it's our tax dollars that are being diverted. This can take away from the funding and attention that should be supporting our family’s and children’s educational needs.

Here’s what illegal immigrants might be charged with if caught breaking the law:

Illegal Entry (8 U.S.C. § 1325) - For those who enter the U.S. without proper authorization, it’s a misdemeanor with up to 6 months in jail for first timers. Repeat offenses can lead to harsher penalties.

Reentry After Deportation (8 U.S.C. § 1326) - If someone returns to the U.S. after being deported, this felony can result in up to 2 years in prison, more if they have a criminal record.

Visa Fraud (18 U.S.C. § 1546) - Tampering with visa documents is a serious felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and up to 25 years if linked to more severe crimes like drug trafficking or terrorism.

False Asylum Claims - Applying for asylum under false pretenses can lead to serious legal consequences, including charges of perjury or fraud. These are serious offenses that carry hefty penalties including prison time.

Your children are surrounded by American citizens who are criminals. Are you concerned about that. How about if IRS comes into school and audits your taxes in front of your kids?

Immigrants are less likely to commit a crime than an American citizen.

The things listed above are civil not criminal offenses…. Like driving 60 in a 55.

So no I’m not concerned.

Those who enter or reenter the United States without permission, face criminal charges. Why would a child be involved in an IRS audit? The only reason to detain a child is if they are undocumented and need to be removed from the school away from law abiding children. They could also be removed if the parents are deported so they can go with them.

Why is a child involved in their parents making them cross a boarder. You think a child even knows they are crossing a boarder. They have committed no crime.

It’s a kin to your child being responsible for your tax evasion, or we’re sitting in your car while you speed.

Remember, when Montgomery County police went into Damascus and accused every single kid of the brooming without their parents there. They interrogated 50 children.

Are raids even happening? I scrolled through X and don’t see a single video. I hope they are empty threats.
