White is a mourning color in the Hindu religion. (I don't know if that is why she chose it but it seems likely it would be a reason.)

Oh I guess that makes sense.

No, it doesn’t make any sense. I’m Hindu and like Usha was born in the US. I have never seen a Hindu wear white to an American funeral. Btw, I think a lot of the Usha-hate comes from a fair number of Indians too.

More from last night here:

The bottom fit is so much more flattering, and the overall look is much better. I don't know what she's punishing her own boobs for, though -- I feel like I'm an unwilling participant in something. But otherwise lovely.

She may be uncomfortable with accentuating them/wearing a more pushup style. That's my take on it.

No, it's that the pushup style she wears gives her hangover fat at the sides, by her armpits. She's not a chunky person, so it's a strange choice -- why not wear a fitted but still relatively flat chest that doesn't squeeze what she has into her armpits? I don't get it.

is that what's going on? i know it looks odd but i don't know why or how

and this is custom!

it's def the best she's looked since she woke up from a nap in time to appear at the convention this summer.

should she be wearing a necklace here?

The cut is "high and tight" like an attempt at modesty; the fix would be to increase the cup size, allowing her breast tissue to sit where it should (instead of being pushed up into her armpits in this dress, or "double bubbled" in the earlier). It has the opposite effect though, drawing attention to her goofy bustline. And without a necklace or something else to move your eyes to, it's just even more obvious.

I am no fan of hers, but your graphic description of her body is very uncomfortable to read. I hope you reconsider the way you talk about other people's bodies in this forum.

Because I said "breast tissue", which is exactly what it is? I'm describing the fit issues with *the dress*. If it made you uncomfortable, you need to deal with that for what it is: your discomfort.

I think Vance will resist any pressure to do appearances she doesn’t want to do, and will get a sane stylist who will keep her in quality designer wear, and that’s that. She’s in great shape but isn’t going to be a Lara Trump tacky twin, and she doesn’t seem susceptible to getting her face rotated like Melania. We’ll see!

I don’t think she is nasty. We are just one degree of Kevin Bacon and everyone says they were both (JD, too) very nice and normal.

Power can do crazy things to people. Too bad, because they could have done a lot of good.

As Stephen Sondheim wrote, “nice is different than good.” We’d all do well to remember that.

I'm not good, I'm not nice, I'm just right!

Again, who tailors this woman's clothes (or doesn't)? The coat is oversize, and not in a fashionable way. It does give the "little girl playing dress-up" vibe pp mentioned, as oversize clothes often do.

I like the cultural choice of mourning color, though it probably won't translate well to the MAGA audience. Then again, they'll forgive a rapist, so...

Is it possible she has layers under it though? I am not sure it is oversized given the weather.

The shoulder point hangs off the edge, and that affects the rest of the drape. It's also just not tailored to fit without some slouchy bagginess, but the style of this coat is supposed to be tailored to fit.

That doesn't mean it's awful, but it is not doing her favors.

The print on Melania’s outerwear is tacky and her eye makeup is total Champagne Room banging it out for cab fare. Like come ON.

Come at me - and I’m as progressive as Rep Jayapal, but not South Asian - Vance is very attractive and the coat, makeup, and not covering the grey looks great. (Not the boots though).

exactly. it looks like a borrowed coat, not a tailored coat.

Print? There is some sort of rain spatter (maybe on the lens?), but you can also on the dark men's coats.

Now just dye those greys and we'll be in a much better place.

I wouldn't dye my grays if I were her. She has such dark hair that she would constantly need touch-ups.

Her gray also looks elegant, natural, and it's not hugely noticeable. I hope she keeps it.

That too! That is also why I wouldn't start a tedious coloring regimen if I were her. I hope she keeps it as well.

Oh, I was hoping the white coat was a subtle message that she’s not going to be pushed into a Trumpian Cookie cutter mold and will continue to be her self, Indian and Hindu and all.
If not, I think it’s a weird choice for the wreath laying, where people usually wear somber attire, and it suggests her stylist and prptocol folks are somewhat out to lunch.

Why do women do this to each other??

The first strapless Usha wore was waaay too tight in the chest but the black one looked ok. I didn’t think it was a wow factor or anything but made me realize I need to incorporate more chest presses and flys into my workout. I mean say what you will about her fashion choices, but she’s got toned arms, shoulders and chest!

She does, and that's definitely an area she can highlight.

I don’t like the black dress, ODR has some gorgeous dresses now, this one looks like an early 90’s velvet dress from anyone. It also doesn’t fit her properly, it looks like it’s squeezing everything up and out of the top.

The white coat is too white, too belled at the bottom, and it too is ill fitting. The light brown boots are too casual.

These are misses for me,

She should have a good tailor in her corner. Someone she trusts and who is familiar with how to get a good fit for her
