i mean, let's face it - once you reach your 40s-50s, you just don't know what health stuff is in store for you. even if you marry someone your exact age, you can have some unpleasant bodily surprises.

Agreed and also wealthy people carry age easier. Better healthcare and better diets and less stress and more vacation and downtime. Yes 17 years is a big age gap but it's not like Amal is going to wind up changing George's diapers when he's infirm -- they are rich AF and will be able to afford in-home care.

The age difference is on the higher end but is not drastic for the ages at which they met.

They met when she was 35 and he was 50. It’s not same if they had met when she was 18 and he was 33, where she would have had zero life experience. By 35, she had already completed her education, established herself professionally, her personality and preferences should have been established by then, she probably had relationships. The relationship starting with the younger partner at 35 puts them on a more on an equal footing. Frankly, if they get 10 or 20 years of happiness, it would be worth than if she were miserable for 30 years with someone younger.
